George "Ellis" Belew

July 10, 2021

George ''Ellis'' Belew, age 66, died July 10, 2021. He was born February 14, 1955 in Romance, Arkansas to the late Glenn and Bethel Lorene Belew. He was preceded in death by his partner Lynne Trulock Ravellette. Ellis loved his family, who referred to him simply as ''Pops,'' and his multitude of friends and colleagues. He was kind and charming and a beloved father, grandfather and child of God.

Ellis was raised in Romance, graduating from Rose Bud High School where he played varsity basketball. He graduated from UALR with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. Shortly after graduation, he accepted a position with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where he retired as an Assistant Vice Chancellor of Finance following over 30 years of service. He was an exemplary professional and highly valued the relationships he formed with his colleagues.

Ellis loved sports, particularly baseball and basketball, and he often referred to his time as coach and spectator of his children as the ''golden years.'' He instilled his competitive spirit in his children, but never at the cost of sportsmanship. He spent countless hours at the gym and ballpark and he treasured those memories and the players, parents and coaches he encountered over the years.

Ellis revered a good joke and had a playful and mischievous sense of humor-though it was rare for him to finish a punchline without interrupting himself with his own laughter. He was a connoisseur of live music, particularly blues, and relished sharing those experiences with friends and family. He was an avid fly fisherman with a deep awe and appreciation for the outdoors that lead him to fish the rivers and streams of Montana, Colorado, and New Mexico.

Ellis is survived by his sons Aaron ''Clark'' Belew of Knob Noster, MO and Kyle Belew (Amanda) of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Megan Belew of Farmington; brother, Ronnie Belew of Heber Springs; sister, Lee Ann Farrar (Lee) of Antioch, TN; and grandchildren Lane, Aidan, Ethan, Jameson, Hayes and Jaxen Belew. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 5, at 2:00 p.m., at Roller Chenal Funeral Home in Little Rock. A memorial will follow at 3:00 p.m., officiated by Len Hill.

Memorials are requested to the Glioblastoma Foundation (www.glioblastomafoundation.org/get-involved/donate).
