Valerie Devereaux Barker of Mabelvale, Arkansas was born in St. Johns, Newfoundland on February 1, 1953 and entered into eternity on Wednesday, July 7th, 2021.
She was a certified phlebotomist and medical assistant. She enjoyed caring for her patients and working alongside the doctors and coworkers. She was highly regarded as a hard worker and her sassy personality made her loved by the staff. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She would speak of them often and enjoyed their visits and time together. She was of the Catholic faith and loved a good cup of coffee with her sisters and friends and a good story or two. She touched so many lives by her charismatic spirit and love for life, family, and friends. We will miss her greatly.
Mrs. Barker was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerry Barker, of 18 years, parents, John and Kay Devereaux; three brothers, Michael, Randy and Melvie Devereaux and five sisters, Donna Van Valkenburg, Barbie Dorsey, Maureen Haynes, Kay Hinze and infant sister Maureen Devereaux.
Valerie and Jerry welcomed visits from her sisters from Canada during the summer months. They enjoyed playing cards, darts, Arkansas weather, lakes and attractions. Valerie loved a good road trip, visiting Northeast Arkansas many times to see her sisters, nieces, and nephews.
Survivors include one son Randy Lewis, Jr and one daughter, Jacqueline Lewis both of Little Rock. She is survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Jim Oliver of Torbay, Newfoundland, Shelly and Robert Hookey and Liz and Danny Breen, of St. Johns, Newfoundland; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy and Barb Devereaux, and Johnny and Debbie Devereaux, all of Torbay, Newfoundland; three grandchildren, Riley Coffman, Aspyn Lewis and Zoei Pomeroy. The family would like to thank her special caretakers and family, niece Dina Wunderlin (Mike), niece Kim Dooms (Jimmy) and great- niece Ashley Garner (Scott).
