James "Jimmy" E. Boyd, Sr.

of Benton, AR

January 27, 1926 - July 12, 2021

James E. Boyd, Sr. passed away Monday morning at his home in Benton, AR after a short illness. He was 95. Jimmy was born in Attala, AL on January 27, 1926 to James M. and Bessie Copeland Boyd and spent most of his life in West Helena, AR. He served in the Army in World War II. Jimmy moved to West Helena in 1950 and opened Citizens Funeral Home with three other partners, eventually selling the business in 1988. He served on the Board of Merchants and Farmers Bank, the Helena-West Helena Airport Commission and the West Helena Housing Authority. Jimmy was also a member of the West Helena Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Other than family, his greatest passion was flying.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Lucy Boyd of Benton, one son James E. Boyd, Jr. and his wife Teresa of Hot Springs Village, AR and one daughter Deborah Sharp and her husband Rusty of Benton. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Blair Beavers and her husband Jared, Evin Boyd, James E. Boyd, III and his wife Selby, Gina Sharp, and Peyton Sharp and his wife Bailey, along his three great-grandchildren: Brooks Boyd, Emerson Beavers, and Bennett Beavers.

Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 11:00 in the chapel of Roller Citizens Funeral Home in West Helena with visitation beginning at 10:00. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the West Helena Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
