Hobert Gene Akins

of Boliver, MO

October 6, 1971 - July 1, 2021

Hobert Gene Akins, III, better known as "Gene" to family and friends or "I Do" and "Beaner" to his siblings growing up, hit a home run to Jesus on Thursday, July 1, 2021. Gene was the seventh child born to Hobert Gene Akins (yes, he was very proud to carry his father's name!) and Violet Pauline Akins on October 6, 1971, in Yakima, Washington. He was a cute little guy with a charming crooked smile like his daddy.

As a family, we were raised on country music and baseball. Gene took both to heart by playing baseball in high school-a strong hitter who probably slugged the ball harder and faster by listening to his favorite Keith Whitley or Nirvana song. Gene never sought the spotlight and his ''no fuss' attitude carried into his adult life where his goodness and kindness were seen through his generosity and willingness to help others when he saw a need.

In August of 1996, on one of those hot Arkansas days out on the lake, Gene became smitten with a beautiful blonde, Tina Wessels, who thought he was kinda cute too. On November 23, 2002, they tied the knot, and Gene became a husband and a father to two cherished children, Kayla and Clint Foster.
In addition to working with his brother Danny in construction, Gene found enjoyment in good ol' country boy hobbies like fishing, playing poker, and coon hunting. He also had a love for Christian music and was baptized in 2019 at Harvest Assembly of God Church, in Fair Play, Missouri.

Gene joins his father and grandson, Keaton Manes, in Heaven. He is survived by his mother, Pauline Akins; his wife, Tina Akins; his children, Kayla Manes and husband Tyler and Clint Foster and spouse Paul; his grandchildren, Kylie Manes and Willow Foster; and his siblings, Clay Akins, Ida Rupp and husband Dan, Ethel Tensel and husband Scott, Truman Akins and wife Melanie, Glenda Wise and husband Dave, Lawanna Stuck and husband Don, Marjie Jenkins and husband Craig, and Danny Akins and wife Akelia.

He left us quietly,
His thoughts unknown.
But left us a memory,
We are proud to own.

So treasure him Lord,
In Your garden of rest.
For when on earth,
He was one of the best.
