Joseph "Joe, Joey" Guy Hogan

of Little Rock, AR

September 5, 1962 - February 20, 2021

Joseph (Joe, Joey) Guy Hogan, Jr. of Little Rock, AR passed away on Saturday, February 20th, 2021 at the age of 58. A beloved husband, father, uncle, friend, mentor, and role model, Joe played a special role for the many people he loved in his lifetime. His love for others was an extension of his faith as he lived out the two greatest commandments: "Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength . . . and love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37-39).

The cornerstone in his personal and professional life was the relationships he had with others. Rooted in his love for Jesus, his connections developed quickly and deeply because he listened well and was so personable, energetic, kind, caring, and (especially) hilarious. Through his life he demonstrated that he was honest, consistent, optimistic, joyful, curious, adventurous, outgoing, and radiant.

Joe worked hard, played hard, and gave one hundred and ten percent to everything he did, including being the general manager at Southern Star Materials for nearly 30 years. He enjoyed helping others, watching them succeed, and putting a smile on someone's face. He loved to be outdoors and enjoy God's creation, especially while riding his bicycle, hiking, and bird watching. When he was not working or outdoors, you could usually find him having good conversations, telling a story, enjoying a good meal, watching a race, or jamming/drumming to his music. The simplest things brought him the most joy which he shared to those around him with a hug, a shoulder squeeze and always a laugh.

To his children, Joe was an amazing teacher but also became a close friend and confidant. On phone calls and around the dinner table he would encourage them, offer words of faith and wisdom, talk about the Hogs' performance, catch up on the latest TV series, share food adventures, and everything in between. In the past few years, Joe was able to resume the active lifestyle that he was so passionate about. After his hip surgery, he put everyone on notice that he was back and ready to rock. On hikes he would lead the way with everyone running to catch up. On a bicycle, you would think you were evenly matched until Joe showed his true strength and zoomed ahead. It is common for children to think their dad is Superman; his children are blessed that they did not grow out of that.

Joe's love for the Lord always came first, and his love for his family was a close second. His spirit will live on in the memories of his wife of 37 years, Kathy Jo Hogan; son, Joseph Guy Hogan, III; daughter, Rebekah Jo Hogan Whitaker (Daniel); and sister, Deborah Jean Hogan McCrady (Joe). He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Guy Hogan, Sr. and Doris Helen Hill Hogan; sister, Judith Diane Hogan; and brother, Larry Joe Hogan.
