Billy Calvin Bangs (Bill) died November 12, 2020, in Mountain View, Arkansas. He was born May 23, 1924 in Mountain View to Andrew Calvin Bangs and Pearl Hinkle Bangs.

Bill is survived by one son, Randy Bangs of Mountain View, two grandsons: Brad (Paige) Bangs of Greenbrier, Arkansas and Keith Bangs of Lowell, Arkansas: three great-grandchildren Abigail Bangs, Jasper Bangs, and Owen Bangs. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews and numerous close family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Pearl, stepmother Addie, his wife Avice (Sutton) Bangs and his siblings Jerry, J.B., Gladys, Ruby, Mary, and Ruth.

He entered the service on November 18, 1942, as a member of the 8th Army Air Force. He served until his honorable discharge on October 22, 1945 having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. While in the Air Force, he flew 28 missions as a waist gunner and belly gunner on B-17's and B-24's, taking anti-aircraft fire on many of the missions over Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He was awarded the European African Medals, Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Distinguished Flying Cross. After discharge he returned to Stone County and married Avice on June 1, 1946. He worked as a logger, owner-operator of Sutton & Bangs and Bill's Service Stations, and as a carpenter for Modern Builders until he retired in 1986.

Visitation is Tuesday, November 17, 2020 from 1:30-2:00 PM at Flatwoods Cemetery in Mountain View, Arkansas. Graveside services will follow the visitation beginning at 2:00 PM with Brother Gary Don Fletcher officiating.

Pallbearers are Littlepage Sims, Laddie Sims, Ladd Sims, Brandon Harlan, Bill Doolin, and Larry Sullivan.

Music by Littlepage Sims and friends.

Military honors rendered by the United States Air Force Funeral Honors Team and the Stone County Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Flatwoods Cemetery Fund, 802 Highway 5, Mountain View, Arkansas.
