Jack J. Woodard

Jack J. Woodard, 92, passed away October 21, 2020 at his home in West Memphis, Arkansas surrounded by his family. He was born July 5, 1928 in Ripley, Tennessee, to Clyde W. and Lucillle Johnson Woodard.

He attended schools in both Ripley and Memphis, Tennessee. He completed courses with the New York Institute of Finance in preparing for his career. Jack excelled in his profession which began when he was 21 as a registered and licensed stock broker with Francis I. DuPont & Co. where he became assistant office manager. He later shifted to become a partner and co-office manager with Mitchell Hutchins & Co. In 1969 he continued his career with E F Hutton & Company as senior financial consultant until his retirement in 1989 to spend more time with family and play more golf.

Jack was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of West Memphis at the time of his death but was a charter member of Rosewood Methodist Church where he held many positions of leadership and service over the years including: Chairman and of all three phases of the construction of Rosewood, Chairman of Council, Trustees, Men' Club and Finance Committee.

Over the years, Jack held a number of positions for his community. Part of this service included 33 years on the West Memphis School Board, 20 years of that as president. He also was on the Board of Directors for Southland Racing Corporation for 5 years. His leadership positions continued as he served on the Board of Directors of the West Memphis Chamber of Commerce. Other organizations included: Junior Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club and Sahara Shrine Club. He served 40 years for the City of West Memphis including Planning and Development, Design Review and Board of Adjustment Commissions. He was a 33rd degree Mason and past SGIG Advisory Council member of Valley of West Memphis and a perpetual member of West Memphis Lodge # 737. And while he enjoyed the relaxation of playing golf with friends at Meadowbrook Country Club he also served 19 years on its governing board with 2 years as its president.

He is survived by two daughters, Teresa Rodgers and Jackie Hudson (Clayton); three grandchildren, Wes Rodgers (Kristy), Blake Hudson (Kim) and Tara Quinn (Joseph); seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ann Deckard. He leaves numerous nieces and nephews as well.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years, Margaret Whitson Woodard; two sisters and one brother.

With all his life accomplishments, Jack never put himself before his family. His dedication and commitment were unwavering. He will be dearly missed by his community, friends, church and family.

Because of the indoor COVID-19 limitations, the family has chosen to hold Jack's funeral service at Crittenden Memorial Park Pavilion, 2206 US-64, Marion, AR, on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow.

Memorials can be sent to the First Presbyterian Church, 315 N. Missouri St., West Memphis, AR 72301, where Jack was an active member.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will be following guidelines issued by the local Department of Health and the CDC regarding COVID-19. Social distancing of at least six feet must be practiced and all funeral attendees must provide and wear their own masks.
