Charles Leonard Brown ''Charlie Brown'', 73, of North Little Rock died Saturday, September 26, 2020. Born at Batesville, Arkansas on January 10, 1947 he was the son of the late Claud Denison Brown and Ruby Howard Brown.

He graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1964 from Cushman High School and was a Summa Cumma Laude graduate of Arkansas College (now Lyon College) with majors in Business Administration and Social Studies. He received his Master's degree in Educational Administration from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.

Before moving to North Little Rock in 1977 he taught social studies at Cushman High school and was superintendent of Desha Schools in Independence County. After working for the Department of Education and serving as Assistant Superintendent of Finance for the North Little Rock Public Schools, Charles went to work for the Vocational Technical Education Division, now Arkansas Division of Workforce Services, where he retired in 2012 as the Associate Director of Finance.

Charles previously owned Brown Bookkeeping and Tax service and spent countless hours at night preparing income taxes for valued clients all over the state.

An avid reader, he often had five to ten books going at a time. He combined his accounting and reading skills to track each and every book he read. He reached his goal of reading one million pages ahead of schedule and his latest chart revealed one million fifty thousand pages read.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church in North Little Rock.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Joyce Vickery, and a brother-in-law, James Allgood.

Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Malinda Jane Bannon Brown; daughter, Natasha Richards (Tony) of Des Arc; son, Patrick Brown (Joslin Ashley) of Sherwood; two adored granddaughters, Taylor Jane Richards of Des Arc and Jonesboro and Tristan Lynn Richards of Des Arc; a sister, Marie Allgood of Ypsilanti, Michigan and three nieces, Deborah Dicks (Doug), Diana Gasparovic (Bill) and LaDonna Fogg (Mark), all of Michigan; and four sisters-in-law, Sonja Massey-Turner, Shirley Gibbs, Marie Greenhalgh, and Becky Cox, as well as a host of other family and friends.

No services are planned at this time. Cremation arrangements are by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home. Interment will be at Kyler Cemetery near Batesville.

The family would like to mention the special care they received at Baptist Health Springhill Saturday evening both in the ER and CCU. From the moment of arrival to the final goodbye the utmost respect and compassion was shown by each and every employee. This made an extremely difficult time for us much easier and for this we all say ''Thanks'' with humbled and grateful hearts.
