of Little Rock, AR
January 10, 1936 - June 24, 2020
Peggy Trexler Bailey, 84, of Little Rock, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 24, 2020. She passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side.
Peggy was born the first of nine children to the late Fred and Faye Trexler of Emmet, Arkansas, on January 10, 1936. She married the love of her life, noted Arkansas sportswriter Jim Bailey, on July 1, 1960. They were married 58 years before he passed away in 2019.
Peggy graduated from Emmet High School and received advanced training in data processing in Houston, TX. She returned to Arkansas and was employed in UAMS Computer Services for 39 years before retirement.
Peggy's life was characterized by her true servant's heart, unconditional love for her family and friends and an abiding faith in God. She had a special love for Arkansas Hospice and was an Arkansas Hospice Volunteer of the Year in 2003. Peggy was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church of Little Rock. She was active in the church and especially enjoyed being a children's Sunday School teacher. She was loved and regarded as a grandmother figure to children of friends in her church and neighborhood.
Peggy cherished her role as a wife and mother. She was an excellent cook; her home-cooked meals were a treat to frequent visitors. She was a very integral part of her large family, and she was always ready to assist with a need wherever she saw it. As sports were central to her life through her husband's career, she and their son often traveled to sporting events and baseball spring trainings which Jim covered for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
Peggy is survived by her beloved son, Bobby, and his wife, Rebekah; one step-granddaughter, Ariel Mathis, and one step-grandson, Micheal Harris. Seven siblings: Dr. Anna Trexler of Magnolia; Donald Trexler (Alice) of Emmet; Charles Trexler of Magnolia; Nancy Trexler Hartness of Mineral Springs; Sandra Trexler McMurtrey (Richard) of Bentonville; Marilyn Trexler Koehler (Bob) of Sherwood; Dwight Trexler (Sheila) of Texarkana and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Peggy is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim; her parents, one sister, Patsy Trexler Hauser; and one sister-in-law, Carrie Ann Holiman Trexler.
