Lewis Harry Hula

of Little Rock, AR

July 12, 1929 - January 31, 2006

On January 31, 2006, Lew Hula died surrounded by love and family. He was born on July 12, 1929 in Des Arc, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Hula and Christine Shimek Hula and his granddaughter, Ali Mills.

After high school the Brooklyn Dodger's organization drafted him as a pitcher where he competed in his rookie year in the minor leagues against another league rookie, Mickey Mantle. He served with the 51st Signal Battalion in the Korean War.

Lew owned the Farmer's Equipment Company in Stuttgart, Arkansas for 20 years before retiring because of his health.

Lew's greatest challenge was his 30 year struggle with debilitating rheumatoid arthritis. He met the challenge and each subsequent phase with unparalleled strength and his legendary wit.

Lew is survived by his daughters, Nancy Mills and her husband Bob; Tami Hula; his son Randall Hula, and his wife Stacey; his dearest friend and mother of his children, Martha Hula; and grandchildren, Bobby Mills, Sarah Hula, and Molly Hula.

A private ceremony will be held Saturday, February 4th. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as a memorial to his life and in honor of his granddaughter, Ali Mills.
