Veannie Elizabeth Layton

April 4, 1940 - February 29, 2020

Veannie Elizabeth (Peters) Qualls Layton went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the age of 79 years old. Veannie was born on April 4, 1940 in Winston, New Mexico. She moved to Arkansas in 1975 with her husband, Thomas Qualls, and five children. Veannie lived her life as a Christian woman and was a member of Greenfield Baptist church. She spent her time sewing, quilting, gardening, and loved caring for others. She was a true angel who always put the needs of others above her own. She was a fountain of local knowledge and always had a great story ready to tell. She also instilled to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren that they had choices and encouraged them to make correct ones. She was a member of the Ladies VFW and the American Legion.

Veannie was preceded in death by her parents, William Lawrence and Allie Elmira Jones Peters; the father of her children, Thomas Qualls Sr.; and four siblings.

Veannie leaves behind her two sons, Thomas Benjamin Qualls Jr. and Brent (Patricia) Qualls; three daughters, Debbie (Bobby) Childers, Lois Qualls Campbell and Audrey Qualls Whitehead; eleven grandchildren, Jennifer Frans, Cheri Phillips Stanbery, Brent Qualls Jr., Michael Pace, Leslie Graves, Mellissa Qualls, Whitney Williams, Thomas Deckleman, Beth Campbell, Dalton Williams and Thor Roby; 25 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Peters; and two sisters, Dorothy Morris and Ann Cook.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Wednesday at Greenfield Baptist Church with Michael Criner officiating. Burial will follow at Farm Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 1 pm until time of service.

Pallbearers will include David Morrow, Gavin Frans, Ryan Frans, Michael Pace, Rick Huffman and Devon Brown. Robert Laughton, James Flowers, David O'Brien, Randy Graves and Bobby Childers will serve as honorary pallbearers.
