Carroll Gentry Elmore

of Searcy, AR

February 19, 1943 - December 22, 2019

One time when Papa took us fishing, I caught a catfish. Papa was clearly impressed, and I basked in the pride he showed. Until yesterday, I kept it a secret that I had just seen the catfish skim the top of the surface and just happened to drop my hook near its freshly popped bubbles. But it wouldn't have mattered-Papa would have been proud just the same. My papa, Carroll Elmore, was always proud: proud of every tacky neck tie or questionable art project-turned-mug we gave him, proud of his kids and grandkids as we grew and graduated, proud of the people we are all becoming. Most importantly of all, however, Papa was proud of his faith. For decades, he served his Lord and Savior as a Deacon at Temple Baptist Church in Searcy, AR. Because children of all ages flocked to him, he taught various levels of Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, truly embodying the call to ''go ye therefore and make disciples.'' Carroll leaves a legacy as a kind, hard-working man. His playful attitude and goofy demeanor make him unforgettable, and memories of his loving, caring spirit will keep our hearts warm in this tough season.

Born in Lonoke, AR, on Feb. 19, 1943, Carroll Elmore left this world to walk with Jesus on Dec. 22, 2019, after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He died peacefully in his home in Searcy, AR. Carroll was preceded in death by parents Gentry and Pauline Elmore, brother Amon Roe, and brother-in-law Bob Doty. He is survived by wife Ena Elmore, sister Alice Doty, children Bill Elmore and Christine Harrell, son-in-law Tim Harrell, daughter-in-law Laurie Elmore, and grandchildren Stacey, Hayleigh, Ena Catherine, Logan, and Miles. Visitation will be held at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home on Fri., Dec. 27 from 6-8 p.m., and funeral service will be held at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home on Sat., Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. with interment to follow at Concord Cemetery in Lonoke, AR.
