W. H. "Mac" McCutcheon, age 103, of Harrison, passed away Monday, November 25, 2019, at Hillcrest Home in Harrison. He was born March 29, 1916, in Bass, Arkansas, the son of Ross and Cora (Wasson) McCutcheon. Along with his parents, W. H. was preceded in death by his first wife, Nelda (Kent) McCutcheon, in 1970; his second wife, Wanda (Cantrell) McCutcheon, in 2018; and his six siblings.

W. H. was a member of the First Christian Church, in Harrison, where he served as Elder, Deacon, Chairman of the Official Board for two terms, Superintendent; and Youth Counselor for four years. W. H. attended Bass School through the 10th grade and then graduated from Jasper High School. He attended Arkansas State Teachers College, Arkansas Tech, the University of Arkansas where he received his BS degree majoring in History and his MSE degree in Education Administration with emphasis on Public School Counseling, and the University of Missouri.

Through his educational career, W. H. was a math and science teacher and basketball coach at Ridgeway School from 1939 to 1942. He was a principal and basketball coach at Mt. Judea School from 1942 to 1944. He then joined the military having served during World War II and was a math instructor in the Armed Forces Institute in the Philippines from 1944 to 1946. Upon his discharge for the military, W. H. was then Superintendent of Schools at Mt. Judea School for a year. His career then brought him to Western Grove School where he was Superintendent of Schools from 1948 to 1951. From 1951 to 1975, W. H. was with the Harrison School District where he was Junior High School Principal, the High School Principal, and the High School Counselor. His final years in the education field brought him to North Arkansas Community College from 1975 to 1981 where he was a Counselor and Director of Special Services. W. H. enjoyed RV camping, fishing, golf, and collecting watches.

W. H. was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, the Chamber of Commerce, the Arkansas Personnel and Guidance Association where he served as President, the Northwest Arkansas Counselors Association where he served as President, the Arkansas School Counselors Association where he served as Treasurer for three years, the National Education Association, the Arkansas Education Association where he served on various committees, and the Lions Club where he was a Lion Tamer, Zone Chairman, First Vice-President, and President.

W. H. is survived by his nephew, Wayne McCutcheon, of Harrison; numerous other nieces and nephews; great-nieces, great-nephews; his step-daughter, Dr. Cynthia Goatley, of Waterloo, Iowa; and a host of other family and friends.



Visitation was Monday, December 2, 2019, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.

Funeral service was 2:00 PM, Monday, December 2, 2019, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with Dr. David Artman officiating.

Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were W. H.'s family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers were W. H.'s nephews and the staff of Hillcrest Nursing Home.
