Dr. William D Williams

William D. ''Bill'' Williams was born April 22, 1928 in Macon, Georgia and died Monday, November 11, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Inez Meers Williams, and by his wife of 61 years, Lilly Warren Williams. He is survived by four children, Steve Williams, (Susan) of McAlester, OK., Bryan ''Skip'' Williams of Fort Pierce, Florida, Lynn (David) Bradshaw of Amarillo, TX and Jane (Ruud) Scheenen of Grathem, Netherlands; six grandchildren, Ryan Williams, Bethany Daniel, Matt, Erin, Luke and Hannah Bradshaw, two great grandchildren, Noah Daniel and Liam Daniel; and by his sister, Nona Summitt of Farmville, Virginia.

Bill and his wife, Lill, were long time members at the College Church of Christ, where Bill served as a Deacon for many years.

Bill grew up in Lexington, KY and received a BS degree in 1950 from Harding and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Kentucky in 1954. He taught chemistry at Harding for 39 years from 1954 until 1993. While he was there is received the Harding Distinguished Teacher award in 1969 and the Outstanding Alumnus award in 1999. His greatest pride was the success of his students who had outstanding careers in science, medicine and education.

In the latter teaching years, Bill began a hobby of collecting early American chemistry books and established the ''History of Chemistry Collection'' in the Harding Library. In 1966 this collection was designated by the American Chemical Society as a ''National Chemical Historic Landmark''. Bill published 35 articles about the books and their authors.

After retirement, Bill and Lill lived four entire summers in Idaho and enjoyed traveling throughout the west.

Funeral Service will be 10:00AM, November 23, 2019 at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home in Searcy. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home.
