Vernon (Curly) Lee Martin passed away at his home in Capps Monday, October 7, 2019. He was born March 20, 1943, to Jeff and Dovie (Marshall) Martin, at Batavia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Celestia (Wilhelm) Martin; his parents; his children, Jackie Rains and Pat Pederson; his grandson, Jason Todd Dickey; his great-grandchild, Celestia Ryver Rains; his brothers, Loyd, J.C., Jimmy, and J.E. Martin; and his sisters, Eva Scott, Lillie Wright, and Vonnie Mitchell.

When Vernon married Celestia he became Pops to the six Rains kids. He loved to tinker with anything and basically fixed any type of vehicle. He retired as janitor from Harrison School District.

Vernon is survived by his children, Susan Smith of Capps, Andy (Sherri) Rains of Pensacola Florida, Dede (Ronnie) Harris of Harrison, and John Kent (Lisa) Rains of Capps; his brother, Fate Martin, of Wichita, Kansas; many grandchildren; great- grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many friends that will miss him dearly.


Visitation was Thursday, October 10, 2019, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.

Funeral was Friday, October 11, 2019, at Roller- Christenson Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Brown officiating.

Pallbearers were Andy Rains, John Kent Rains, Donnie Lee Phillips, Matt Dickey, Tim Harris, and Jonathan Melbourne.

Interment was in Denning Cemetery.
