On January 29, 2019 Larry Gene Coursey passed away.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ethel Johnson, who raised him; his mother, Caranada Chamberlain; his father, Ernest Coursey; his sisters, Janice Taylor and Pamela Harmon; and his brothers, Tommy and Brian.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna Coursey. Also his children and their spouses whom he loved dearly: Kevin and Stacy, Kyle and Marie, Pamela and Norvin; his grandkids, Dillon, Lindsey, Trace, Kaitlin, Evander, Alexis, Keira, Jacob, Felicity, Noah, and Addalyn. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who knew him as Uncle Larry Gene.

Larry moved here with me and our small son, Kevin in 1975. Since he was a person who never met a stranger, he knew many people and considered each a special friend.

He loved working with wood and was a carpenter by trade, but he also loved fishing and growing a garden especially flowers.

Before Larry and my mom, Iris Bates, Became disabled they were in a big contest as to who could produce the best garden. Each spring he would break ground for his upcoming garden and then would drive a stake at each end of his rows. Next he would string a string from one stake to the other stake which would create the perfect straight row. Then proceed to plant his crop in his ''perfect'' rows. He had many discussions with my mom, the very experienced gardener, as to how she needed to straighten her rows. She informed him that she could get more plants in her rows since they were crooked then he could, therefore she has the better garden. Each year she planted her rows more crooked and he devised more ways to make his rows straighter. It was never decided (in my husband's eyes), as to who had the best garden.

Last night our growing family sat down at the dining table to plan the funeral. One of the jobs was to pick the songs that would be sung. The four songs that were chosen had a special meaning to each one of us. The one song our 3 kids chose was ''Daddy's Hands''.

Never was a mother more proud of the life that we had created together than at that moment with that kind of tribute being paid by our 3 kids to the man that I have loved for over 50 years.

We will sorely miss you.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Coursey, Kyle Coursey, Dillon Coursey, Trace Coursey, Norvin Lemon, David Bates.
