Shirley Ann Skaggs

of England, AR

June 29, 1944 - September 6, 2014

On Saturday, September 6, 2014, Heaven gained the most beautiful angel, Shirley Ann Rhoades Skaggs.

She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband of 55 years, Jack Junior Skaggs; her parents, Earl and Pearl Rhoades, and three sisters (Norma Jean, Linda Mae and Veda Jo).

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she loved her family and cared for them like no other.
In the early years, Shirley worked at Filmaid where she sewed clothing. She spent many years at Clearlake Footwear sewing shoes. After the closing of the shoe factory, at the age of 52, Shirley received her GED. This was one of her proudest accomplishments. She was then led to England Elementary School where she spent the next 10 years. She started out as a substitute teacher and became a paraprofessional in the Special Education Department. The kids won her heart and helping them became her passion.

Shirley was a member of England Pentecostal Church of God and she believed in miracles.

On December 21, 2009, she was diagnosed with small cell carcinoma in the lung. After multiple rounds of chemo and 23 radiation treatments the cancer was gone…She received a miracle. She was cancer free until May 2014, when the cancer had returned. Shirley began the fight again because she believed in miracles. God had other plans and today she is with Jack, rejoicing at the feet of Jesus.

Shirley is survived by: four children; Jackie (Barbara) Skaggs, Liz James, Ron (Linda) Skaggs and Sharon (Steve) Busick, all of England; seven grandchildren; Dusten Sowell, Beth (Phillip) Chappell of England, Chris (Keisha) Skaggs of Scott, Angie (Jason) Skaggs of Austin, Candace (Jess) James, A.J. (Beth) Skaggs and Tyler Busick of England; seventeen great-grandchildren; three brothers (Jimmy, Ray and James), three sisters (Glenda, Dean and Donna) and a host of friends and extended family whom she loved dearly.
