Dr. William I. Jenkerson, 65, went home to be with Jesus, on Sunday, July 22, 2012. He was with his family at the Covenant Hospice Care Center in Panama City, Florida, when his long battle with cancer ended. He is rejoicing in Heaven with his mother and father, Dr. E.A. "Pete" and Emma Jean Jenkerson.
After graduation from Batesville High School, Bill went on to the University of Arkansas and Lyon College for pre-optometry. He graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in 1974 and then returned to Batesville to practice for 37 years. Bill loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and golfing. He loved to cheer on his Pioneers, Razorbacks, and West Magnet Dance Team. Dr. Jenkerson was of the Baptist faith and active in the John 3:16 Ministries.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kay, and his daughter Danielle Jenkerson (James Milligan) all of Batesville; his sisters, Sue Anne Jenkerson (Marvin Bailey) of Anchorage, Alaska and Carol Jean Jenkerson of Batesville; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 26 at Roller Crouch Funeral Home from
5 to 8 p.m. The celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 27 at Ruddell Hill Baptist Church with graveside services to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville.
Pallbearers will be: Albert Teague Jr., Harry Shelton, Larry Price, Dr. Mark Williams, Randal Montgomery, Will Love, Jeff Teague, Dr. Paul Strecker, Scott Green, Andrew Williams, Scott Montgomery, Canon Teague and Brian Burleigh.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Chuck Sweet, Bob Sweet, Dr. Doug Matthews, Dr. Chris Ragland, Dr. Ken Robbins, Dr. Brad Baltz, Bryce Teague, Jarod Teague, Sean Teague, Jim Lavender, the men of John 3:16 Ministries, and the West Magnet Dance Team dancers and their parents.
Lunch will be served at the First United Methodist Church on Main Street in Batesville by John 3:16 Ministries following the graveside services.
