Sibyl Hays Clayof Searcy, AR

Sibyl J. Hays Clay was born March 9, 1929, the second daughter and fourth child of Lucile Johnston and Arch Lee Hays. She died May 10, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn J. Clay; step-daughter, Anna Lynn Vernon; three brothers, James A. Hays; Emmett L. Hays, Sr.; John Paul Hays; and a sister, Dora McDaniel. She is survived by her stepdaughter and son-in-law, Glenna and Stephen MacGrotty; son-in-law, Rusty Vernon; grandsons, Adam and Jacob Vernon. Also surviving are her sisters, Joan McKenzie (Milburn); Polly West (Don Fulmer); and Ruby Lane (Bill); seventeen nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
Choosing banking as her career, she began working in 1946 at the First National Bank in Searcy, worked for a period of time in Kansas City, MO and the remainder of her career at First Jacksonville Bank in Arkansas from 1955 until her retirement in 1990. She served the bank as Vice President of Operations, and West Main branch manager. She and Glenn returned to Searcy and she became involved at First Baptist Church as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School helper and librarian. She was a member of the CARTI Auxiliary and a charter member of the Fredrick Van Patten Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, her Lunch Bunch, the Q-tips and the Widows group were a happy part of her later years.
Services will be held 4:00 P.M. Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Roller-Daniel Funeral Chapel, Searcy. Interment will follow at Gum Springs Cemetery. Family request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to either the American Cancer for Research or to the Searcy First Baptist Church Building Fund.
