Walter Gordon Cartwright, age 76, of Valley Springs, passed away at Hillcrest Nursing Home Saturday March 24, 2012. Walter was born to Carroll and Irene (Branscum) Cartwright at Rally Hill, Arkansas on May 17, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Joe Allen, son James Walter (Jamie) Cartwright, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hershel and Virgina Cantrell.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jo Anna Cantrell Cartwright, sons John Cartwright and wife Brenda of Many, Louisiana, Gerald Cartwright and wife Shari of Everton, Arkansas, daughters Carol Godfrey and husband Lyle of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Stephenia Henderson and husband Mike of Nixa, Missouri Walter is also survived by his brother Thomas Cartwright of Terrell, Texas and sister Patricia Mattingly of Longview, Texas, eight grandchildren, four step grandchildren, three great grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren.

Walter spent many years in the Church furniture field in sales, manufacturing, and installation all over the country with Turney Wood Products, Imperial Woodworks, American Seating Co., and J & H Custom Furniture. In later years he taught woodworking at Maple Corners in Harrison, and Phoenix House in Mountain Home. After retirement, he spent many hours taking care of his farm and cattle.

Walter was a member of First Christian Church and was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. He was also the past president of Ozark Shrine Club and past board member of Independent Living. He enjoyed camping and fishing at the area lakes. He loved his family and was happiest when all the children and grandchildren were visiting.


Visitation was Monday, March 26, 2012, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.

Funeral was Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at the First Christian Church in Harrison.

Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Travis Godfrey, Chad Godfrey, Greg Henderson, Cody Maupin, Reed Turner, Randy Budge, Ricky Morris, and Ronald Delk.

Honorary pallbearers were the Hillcrest Nursing Home Staff.
