John Okla Butler, age 97, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 8, 2010. He was born on Friday, October 18, 1912 to Charles Wesley Butler and Essie Lee Nichols Butler in Roseville, Arkansas.
Mr. Butler was a member and deacon for 55 years at Baring Cross Baptist Church, North Little Rock, Arkansas; a 32nd Degree Mason, loving father, grandfather and husband of 70 years to his precious wife, Jewel.
Mr. Butler is survived by his wife, Jewel Doris Gillis Butler; one son, John O. Butler II (Ginger Yates) of Hot Springs, Arkansas; one daughter, Georgia Kay Cathey (Gary) of Niceville, Florida; five grandchildren: Michael Cathey, Melissa Clemmons, John O. Butler III, Phillip Butler and Nicole Butler; thirteen great grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Phillips; two brothers: Garner Butler and Billy Charles Butler; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00p.m., Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Baring Cross Baptist Church. Dr. Marty Watson will officiate. Interment will follow with services at Palestine-Jones Cemetery, outside Sheridan, Arkansas. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00p.m., Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock, Arkansas, 501-791-7400.
