Harvey Ray Thompson

of Conway, AR

August 31, 1946 - February 11, 2016

Harvey Ray Thompson, 69, originally of North Little Rock, died peacefully Thursday, February 11, 2016 surrounded by his family in Conway. He was born in North Little Rock on August 31, 1946 to the late Lorean and Rupert Thompson. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Thompson and granddaughter, Kaitlyn Ford.

After he attended Sylvan Hills High School, Harvey was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he served as a helicopter mechanic during his tour of duty. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran, and you would never see him without his Vietnam Veteran cap. After the war, he returned to work for Union Pacific Railroad as an Engineer until his retirement.

Harvey was a wonderful Dad, Paw Paw, and husband. He always took care of his family and was proud of that accomplishment. He could fix anything he could get his hands on, and he could drive a freight train like only old school Engineers know how to run a train. Harvey never met a stranger and made many friends wherever he went. He enjoyed his group meetings at the Conway VA Clinic. His High School annual listed his motto as, ''Never hurry, never worry!'' That sentiment fit him like a glove from the beginning of his life to the very end. He will be forever missed and always loved.

Harvey is survived by his wife of 47 years Brenda Sebourn Thompson; son, Larry Thompson; daughter Michelle Ford (David); two grandchildren, Justin Thompson and Case Ford; brother, Richard Thompson (Gerry); two sisters, Reba Thompson McCown and Laverne Thompson Wilbur (Gene); and many beloved nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Visitation will be from 6:00 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will follow with military honors at Old Liberty Cemetery in Conway.

Gods grace is wonderful and I am so pleased for your Dad to go home so peacefully and swiftly. Although too soon for his years the suffering is no more.

What a friend, mentor and man. If asked would always give advise and his wisdom about running that train. Harvey will be missed by so many and has touched the lives of so many as well.
Kick the brakes off Harvey, Highball.
