Sherman E. Cox

July 23, 1963 - November 13, 2015

Sherman Cox, age 52 of Conway, Arkansas went to be with his Lord on Friday November 13, 2015. He was born Tuesday, July 23, 1963 in Stuttgart, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Thomas and Opal Hickman, his paternal grandparents Nick and Lillian Cox and his beloved German Shepherd Sandy Ruth Cox.

He is survived by his wife of ten years Cheryl (Lunsford) Cox of Conway, his parents Shiron and Sherman Cox of Clarendon, his beloved German Shepherd Brutus, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a countless number of friends as well as his Cadron Valley golf buddies.

Sherman received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia and has a football coaching career spanning 33 years. He was currently serving as Athletic Director at Maumelle High School and was highly respected by the athletic community across the state.

Sherman loved golf, Myrtle Beach vacations and the Texas Longhorns. He will always be remembered for his quick wit, no nonsense-tell it like it is personality, and his big heart. He was an incredible coach, an amazing mentor to his students, athletes and teachers and a loyal and honest friend. He was fiercely dedicated to his wife and family and his legacy will forever live through the students and athletes he inspired.

Funeral service will be held at 6pm, Monday November 16, 2015 at the Maumelle High School Auditorium. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at 11am, Tuesday November 17, 2015 at Shady Grove Cemetery in Clarendon.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Layrock, Patrick Lane, Paul David Willis, Waylon Biggs, Chris Stroud and Eli Keller. The Maumelle Coaching staff will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Sherman's memory to the Maumelle High School Booster Club.

To the Cox Family:
I was very fortunate to be able to make a friend in Sherman through our River City Conference. Sherman always spoke with kindness and his opinion was valued among the Athletic Directors of our junior high conference. As we move forward, there will always be a void at our monthly meetings where Sherman sat and laughed with us all!
Wishing God's hand of peace and comfort for your family at this time!
