A celebration of life service for John Marvin Barrett will be held at the First Christian Church Mountain Home, Arkansas at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2015 with Jake Butcher officiating. The visitation reception is planned for 9:30 a.m. prior to the service.

John passed away peacefully at home Monday, October 12, 2015 at the age of 84. The son of John and Edith Barrett, John was born June 6, 1931 and raised in Maxwell, Iowa. He married Bonnie (Caudle) in 1951 and raised his family in Ames, Iowa where he spent his career in retail. Upon retirement, he moved with Bonnie to Mountain Home in 1990. After Bonnie's passing, he married Sheila (Campbell) on December 6, 2008. John was a devoted member of the First Christian Church where he served as construction superintendent of the new church building and in multiple leadership roles including teaching Sunday school, chair of the deacons (17 years) and chair of the Membership and Evangelism Committee (22 years). He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and enjoyed spending time fishing, working on stained glass projects, woodworking, and gardening. John is survived by Sheila, his sister Louise Alleman, Nevada, Iowa; sons Steven (Jan) Marshalltown, Iowa; Lynn (Debra) Kansas City, Missouri; Michael (Jean) Adel, Iowa; eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. John is preceded in death by Bonnie, Wilbur (brother), and Arvilla (sister).

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church Youth Fund.

Mike I am sending hugs for you & family. I did not have the pleasure of meeting your father. However, I only needed to read about his life and I recognized your life also. What a great legacy for s fine Christian man.
