of Little Rock, AR

July 19, 1940 - September 21, 2015

On September 21, 2015, our precious Pappaw, CHARLES HOWARD SMITH, went to Heaven to build cabinets for Jesus.

Charley was born on July 19, 1940, to Dorothy and Harris Smith in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Harriett Anne Goldman. He is survived by his wife, Paula Smith; daughter, Anna Goodson; his granddaughter, whom he adored, Savannah Goodson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sherry and Douglas Spickes; nephews: Michael (Mary) Goldman, John (Rose) Spickes, Joshua (Kate) Spickes; niece, Michelle Honeycutt; and a host of other family and friends.

After graduating from North Little Rock High School he attended college at Henderson State University before serving in the Army (66-68). Charley then returned to UALR and completed his BSE where he discovered teaching was ''not for him!'' He returned to Mechanics Lumber Company, Millwork Division, where he built cabinets until he retired in July 2002.

Charley served as an ordained deacon at Ironton Baptist Church and Park Place Baptist Church where he taught the oldest adult Sunday School class. He was currently a member at Oak Park Baptist Church.

A celebration of Charley's life will be observed Friday, September 25, 2015, at 12:00 noon at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Arkansas 72209 (501) 455-5800.

Family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

So sorry to hear about Charlie's passing and very upset that we only just heard. Charlie was a good friend and co worker for many years. He was a strong Christian and a good buddy of mine and I know he is free of health concerns and enjoying spending time with Jesus. See you again, Charlie.
