William "Bill" Franklin Davis

of Greenbrier, AR

September 6, 1941 - September 9, 2015

William (Bill) Franklin Davis passed from this life September 9, 2015. Born on September 6, 1941, in Oklahoma to Sarah Hounshell and Ruebin Davis, he was the youngest of 5 children.

Preceding him in death was one son, William Franklin Davis, Jr., his parents Ruebin & Sarah, 2 brothers, Jewell Otto Davis, of Louisiana, Edward Eugene Davis, of Oklahoma and 2 sisters, Monnie Fay Geyer, of Oklahoma and Lily Sue Davis of Oklahoma. Survivors are his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Katherine Spears Davis and her family Quinton Spears Junior and Donna Hawkins, numerous nieces and nephews as well as many friends.

Bill was a member of Needs Creek Missionary Baptist Church having been saved, as an older adult. It was his custom to put his all into serving where he could.
Bill was born in Oklahoma, leaving at age 3 to go to the Texas pan handle. Then in 4th grade his family moved to Arkansas; where he met his future wife. As a teenager he spent 2 years going to the Canadian border harvesting wheat. After marriage he worked many jobs from maintenance in Salem Nursing and Rehab, construction and mobile home manufacturing. Then he settled in his true love, carpentry work building in Little Rock. After heart surgery he had to give up carpentry, and began hauling sand for Conway Block from Memphis; sometimes making 5 runs a day.

Bill had battled heart disease and lung disease for 20 years; before being struck with bone and prostate cancer 2 years ago, then suffering a broken hip which finally got him.

Bill loved spending time outside enjoying nature and God's creation. In retirement he loved going fishing.

Services will be at 11:00am, Saturday September 12, 2015 at Needs Creek Baptist Church, with Bro. Myron Milholland officiating. Burial will follow at Needs Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Moix, Hershel Smith, Sammy Smith, Jason Spears, Justin Spears, Wesley Spears, John Todd, and Nathan Todd.

Aunt Mary,
I have so many good memories of staying with you and Uncle Bill when I was a child. I can close my eyes and see him working at the dairy or building a new room at our school. I learned to love the western ballads that Marty Robbins and others sang from him.
He always called me by my true name, Annie Marie.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know Uncle Bill is now in heaven with Mom, Little Bill, Otto,Corky,Grannie & Papa. And they are all waiting on us.
