Joseph Harlan TiptonI am a Veteran.

May 1, 1918 - August 9, 2015

Mr. Joseph Harlan Tipton, 97, of Clarksville, passed away August 9, 2015. He was born May 1, 1918, in Johnson County, AR to the late Joseph Grant and Verda Mae (Morris) Tipton.
Mr. Tipton served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded for his service while fighting in Europe. Joseph was born and lived in Johnson County most of his life where he met and married his wife of 72 years, Thelma Jean Myers. They had four children, Jimmy, Ronnie, Tim & Judy. He had an amazing memory and could tell stories about the war, his childhood, and how things had changed in his long life. He could sing entire jingles played on the radio before television was even invented. He gardened for years and grew those great cucumbers that Jean used for her famous pickles. Joseph was a self-taught musician playing guitar, mandolin, and fiddle and was a true fan of original country music. Often when Judy came to visit they would spend time on YouTube listening to the old songs of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, and laugh about the good old days of Buck Owens and Roy Clark on the TV show, Hee Haw.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Tipton is preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Jean Tipton; three sons, James Tipton, Ronnie Tipton, Tim Tipton; one brother, Russell Tipton; three sisters, Ethel Bougher, Hazel Qualls, and Lorene Hickey; eight half brothers and sisters, Allie, Ollie, Willie, Rosie, Lessie, Lewis, Hack and Herman. Joseph is survived by one daughter, Judy Lieux and husband, John of Ft. Smith; two daughters-in-law, Lynda Tipton and Roxann Tipton of Clarksville; sister, Kay Frost of Memphis, TN; three grandchildren, Lanny Tipton, Lisa Venson and husband, Will and Joel Tipton. Five great-grandchildren, Katie Tipton and Chris Roberts, David Tipton and wife, Katie, Mikayla Tipton, Luke Venson and Noah Venson; two great great-grandchildren, Addison Tipton and Fisher Roberts; a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Tipton's graveside funeral service will be 10:00a.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at Oakland Cemetery with Jake Chism officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Clarksville Church Of Christ or Southern Christian Home in Morrilton, AR

Remembering your positive spirit and enthusiasm, Uncle Harlan, makes me so happy that I found you, even though late in life. I hope your remaining family here on earth takes comfort that you've joined your lovely wife, Jean and your sons, Jimmy, Ronnie & Tim, not to mention all of your extended family members with perhaps an exception for Ethyl who made it to 100 to become our first centenarian.
I thought it fitting to make a donation in your memory to the Southern Christian Home in Morrilton knowing the SCH made a difference in some of the lives of those you've known.
My family & I offer our love and sympathy,
Your niece,
Barbara
(granddaughter of Ollie Mae Tipton Pratt)
