Charlotte Wilson Gribble Steen, age 99, died May 19, 2015 at The Lakes of Maumelle. She was born April 3, 1916 to Charles Mauxy and Flora Wilson Gribble in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
A lifelong resident of North Little Rock she was a graduate of North Little Rock High School, class of 1933 and graduated from the Draughon's College of Business. Her mother died during the Spanish flu epidemic when she was only two years of age. Her father, a real estate developer, developed the Melrose Addition of No. Little Rock and built many of the houses in the Park Hill area. She married the love of her life Herman Leslie Steen in 1939. During the War she worked at the Arkansas Farmer Magazine while her husband served in the Navy. As members of First Presbyterian Church of NLR, she and her husband, along with other members of that church were commissioned to start a Mission Church in the Park Hill area of North Little Rock. She and her husband would become charter members of this church, Park Hill Presbyterian, commissioned in 1948 and was a member of the church until her death. In the church's formative years she taught children's Sunday School, held the organizational meeting of Presbyterian Women in her home, serving on the Coordinating Team of Presbyterian Women for many years and was a member of the Sunshine Sunday School class. She was a past Sustaining member of the North Little Rock Junior League, a member of the Fine Arts Club of Little Rock, and volunteered at the Arts Center. She served on the Auxiliary Board of Presbyterian Village and was a board member of the Little Rock Woman's City Club. A consummate homemaker and avid bridge player, she loved to entertain family and friends. Always the joys of her life were her family, especially her grandchildren, her church family and her faith in God.
Her parents; brothers, Joe Robinson Gribble and Charles M. Gribble, and her husband Herman Steen preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Herman Leslie Steen, Jr (Judy), of Maumelle, grandchildren Heather Anne Steen of Atlanta, Georgia; James Leslie Steen (Heather Lyn) of Katy, Texas; Step-grandchildren Cherri Leisenring (Alan) of Rogers and Carmen Brown (Dale) of Little Rock. Leslie and Family; Donna and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. Your Mother and my Mother were best friends and talked together every day as well as playing bridge almost daily in their bridge club. Your Mother and Dad were so close to my family that I have "Wonderful Memories" and stories from the past that I treasure and think of from time to time!
Love;
