August 30, 1931 - April 2, 2015

William Herbert Norton, 83, passed away peacefully at home in Searcy with family at his side, on April 2, 2015. Born to the late Dwight and Almar Sanders Norton on August 30, 1931, Herbert was Baptist in faith, a carpenter and quite the independent, resourceful person. Up until two weeks prior to his passing, he could be seen almost daily walking all over Searcy pushing his walker, wearing one of his cowboy hats. Some friends dubbed him "Uncle Cowboy". Herbert is finally at peace and reunited with his brothers and sisters.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews along with two sisters: Josephine Mikesell of Kokomo, IN and Freda Skinner of Portland, OR and one brother, Clois Ray Norton of Yuma, AZ.
Seven sisters predeceased Herbert: Ethel Peppers, Ruth Osmon, Wanda Collison, and Goldie Goodin of Bald Knob; Ruby Osman of Portland, OR; June Taylor of Canton, IL, and Ora Lee Winebarger of Yuma, AZ. Three brothers predeceased Herbert: Golden Norton at birth, Claude Norton of Yuma, AZ, and Jay Norton of Searcy.
Special thanks to Summit Hospice for their tender care during Herbert's last weeks.
There will be a memorial service in his honor on Monday, April 6, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Roller-Daniel Funeral Home Chapel in Searcy.

Great-uncle Hurbert,
You will be missed but never forgotten. I have lots of great memories of one of the most unique individuals in the world. You truly were one of a kind and I find myself blessed to have loved you and been loved by you. There's an empty place in my heart where you belong. Until we meet again in eternity.

I will miss my Uncle so much. He was such a great guy. I loved to listen to his stories. He took us fishing and taught me the correct way to cook them. This California girl was schooled in hush puppies and frog legs. When my parents divorced he came and scooped my three sisters and I and took us to Disneyland. We stayed in his trailer with him. He was fun and full of laughs and a smile. He will always be my special Uncle.
