I remember coming to your house to have you help my mom with tax questions. I never forget a face and the following Christmas I realized it was YOU playing Santa, I was pretty upset about it!! The tax guy, really??

There has never been another like you in this town!

P.s. I forgive you for the time in the 90's when I had the short boy haircut and you called me a boy.
May ole Kris Kringle Rest in peace.

I have many fond memories of Mr. Shumway. When we first moved to Paris, we would buy rabbits from him and he was always so nice. Then of course there were the years he dressed up as Santa Claus on the square. He will be missed!

It's hard to say goodbye to someone who meant so much to you and who helped shaped the person I became. Mr. Bill guided me through life, doing things I couldn't talk mom and dad into like fishing trips, building anything I could imagine, riding cows, and sleeping in the camper no matter where I ended up by the end of the night. He taught me to care and give back and comforted me when I though no one cared. Mr Bill sparked a love for history in me by listening to all his stories. I'll never be able to fully express what this second dad meant to me. I'm just sorry I didn't spend more time with him these past few years, expecting him to always be around. I love you and am glad you will not have to experience the pain of this world again. Watch over us, guide us, and love us eternally, Pie

Edna,Jan & Mike,
We are with you today in our thoughts and in our hearts. We are so sad to hear about Bill. He was a good neighbor as well as our dear friend. We have so many good memories of our times spent with your family, there on the hill. Bill leaves so many folks with good memories of kind deeds he quietly did , never expecting anything in return. He will be missed but never forgotten .
We love you all and wish we could be there with you.

Dear Ms. Edna,
Please accept our deepest sympathy on the loss of Bill. It has been many years since I worked with him at Logan County EMS but his memory still remains very strong. As far as I'm concerned, regardless of the current manufacturer's name, Bill's invention, the Shum Sheet, will always be a huge asset on the ambulance and will always be called the Shum Sheet in his honor.
Love and prayers to you and your family..

This man was Loved by many in Paris, including my family, when our daughter was very little he noticed that her feet and legs were not straight, and helped us to get her in to the Shriners hospital in louisiana, they were a great help to her, and had it not been for Mr Bill and Shriners she would not havebeen able to become the beautiful dancer, and cheerleader, that she was all through her school years. Thank you Mr Bill We Love you and will miss you....

A beautiful flower was picked today.
God looked around His garden and found an empty place.
He then looked down upon His earth and saw your loving face.
He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest.
His garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best.
He knew you were suffering, he knew you were in pain.
And knew that you would never get well on earth again.
He saw your path was difficult, he closed your tired eyes,
He whispered to you "Peace be Thine" and gave you wings to fly.
When we saw you sleeping so calm and free of pain,
We would not wish you back to earth to suffer once again.
You've left us precious memories, your love will be our guide
You live on through your children, you're always by our side.
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone
For part of us went with you on the day God called you home.

We will miss you, Mr. Bill. You were the best neighbor, baby-sitter, and friend we could have ever had. Even your jokes were fun, no matter how embarrassing some might have been. We love you!

Mike and I want to express our sincere condolences on your loss. "Mr. Bill" did so much in his life in service to others, whether as a soldier serving his country or in hauling food for C.O.S. or fundraising for the Shriners or greeting many a child dressed as Santa. He lived life large and we should all be so fortunate to leave such a wonderful legacy. God bless you all!
