of Batesville, AR
March 17, 1993 - January 21, 2015
Rachel Kay Stevens, 21, of Batesville, Arkansas died Wednesday, January 21, 2015, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Randell Stevens and Katrina Mohlke Stevens.
Rachel Kay Stevens was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1993. Rachel gave her whole heart to Christ at the age of 5 and was a dedicated member at West Baptist Church. Being blessed with many God-given gifts and talents, she used them to care for and love her many friends and family. She was artistic and creative in ways that were not inherited from her family. She used her artistic gifts to serve and honor the Lord in her paintings and drawings. Her contagious smile and easygoing personality blessed everyone she met. She was a peacemaker among her peers, and was quick to defend others regardless of their actions. She loved nature and sunsets and all shapes of four-legged animals. She brought home several strays. Two years ago, she spent months researching all dog breeds before she settled on a Golden Retriever puppy and named him Noah. Noah has been Rachel's shadow. He was right beside her until God took her to her heavenly home.
She recently completed her degree requirements at Lyon College and planned to walk with the class of 2015. Rachel was a psychology major who transferred to Lyon from UACCB and was a commuter student during her years at Lyon. She enrolled in graduate school in occupational therapy (OT) in the Memphis UTHSC MOT program. She had begun her third week of OT school with her classmates. She had already made many friends and connected with UT classmates and instructors. Her goals and her purpose for her life were firmly set in high school when she learned about Occupational Therapy. She knew her path and actively pursued it. Early on, Rachel was drawn to people with special needs, particularly children and teenagers. Her life dream was to be an Occupational Therapist. She loved helping people and knew that OT was the perfect career to utilize her God-given gifts. One of her last journal entries was this quote which sums up OT's perfectly: "Love is...meeting the needs of other people."
Survivors include her parents, of Batesville; two sisters, Kayla Stevens House and her husband, Michael, and Kinley Faith Stevens, also of Batesville; maternal grandparents, Glen Mohlke and Pearlean Mohlke of Charlotte; two nephews, Cannon Mark House and Talon Randell House; three aunts, Kathy Kelley and her husband, Blake, Beverly Stevens and Selina Wallis and her husband, Tracy; and five cousins, Leon Kelley, Renee Denton, Dion Stevens, Hayden Anderson and Hudson Anderson, all of the Batesville area.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ralph and Roberta Stevens; and an uncle, Dennis Stevens.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at West Baptist Church with Bro. Cory Majors officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
Pallbearers will be Hayden Anderson, Hudson Anderson, Jacob Gillihan, Cody Mize, Clint Arnold and Garett Denton.
Honorary pallbearers are Clark Emery, Dr. Pat Mulick, Dr. Ann Nolen, Dr. Anne Zachry, Instructors and Classmates at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center and Lyon College Classmates and Faculty.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-3:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at West Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rachel Stevens Scholarship Fund at Lyon College, PO Box 2317, Batesville, AR 72503 or to the Rachel Stevens Memorial Fund at UTHSC Occupational Therapy. (Memo line: Rachel Stevens Memorial Fund) OT Department, 930 Madison Ave. 6th Floor, Memphis, TN 38163. Memorials may also be made to West Baptist Church, 1100 N. Central Ave., Batesville, AR 72501

Rachel and i were never especially close, but I do remember her bright smile, warm laugh, and her sense of fun. She was a bright light while amongst us, and now will be a shining star to watch over us. Blessings and condolences to her family.
To all of the family and friends of Rachel. I never met her but, her picture reminds me of a young Pearlene. From your story about her life and the many loving remarks made in her guest book, I know that you have no doubt where she is. And that is one of the truest gifts from God. My heart hurts for all of you as I know yours are breaking. But, you will see her again at the end of your journeys because, SHE IS HOME.
I'm so blessed to have known Rachel and your family. May God be with you today and in the days ahead. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Although I never had an opportunity to spend much time with my second cousin and know her as an adult, in the short time I spent with her she was always a bright light radiating kindness and love. I wish I could be there with my family to mourn our loss and also celebrate a beautifully lived life.

She was a special girl and I know you can't imagine life without her. Praying for your family.
