of Conway, AR

October 14, 1926 - December 6, 2014

E. Ray Kinser, 88, of Conway passed away at Conway Regional Medical Center on December 6, 2014. He was born in Sweet Home, Arkansas to the late Annie and William Kinser on October 14, 1926.

He attended Little Rock Central High School and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He was married for 45 years to the former Barbara Ann Nichols, who died in October 1996. Ray was a long time teacher in the biology department at the University of Central Arkansas. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin, ''The Funny Farm'', near Calico Rock with the students, friends and family. Ray used his teaching position to promote the protection of the environment and respect for all living things. Ray retired from his teaching position in 1989, but continued to teach throughout his life. Ray was a true outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, and hiking. He enjoyed folk music, blue grass, and old time country music. Later in life he took up karaoke, and entertained friends and family singing the classic songs he had grown to love.

He is survived by three daughters, Melissa Kinser, Kelle Abbott (son-in-law Charles, granddaughter Megan)and Angie Schichtl (son-in-law Tommy, grandchildren Karly, Thomas, Haley, and Jake), and one son, Nick Kinser (daughter-in-law Christina, grandson Tal).

A visitation will be held at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway on Friday, December 12, between 6:00 and 8:00 pm and services will be held at the gravesite at Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock on Saturday at 11:00 am.

Nick, Angie, & Melissa & Kellie:

So very sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. He was the VERY BEST Biology Teacher @ UCA, bar none. A great scientist, a great friend, who made learning fun & a great CRITTEROLOGIST!

He was always my main resource in biology even after graduation. In fact, I went back post BS to take Mr. K for Zoology in 1982 Fall.

I lost track of him when he moved to Harrison. I still think of him often & anytime I have a critter question. Again, he shall be sorely missed by me & all others who knew & loved him. A great man, a great scientist, a true conservationist, not just a wanna be, Ray Kinser was literally the REAL McCoy of Science.

What a delightful man to have obtained my middle name from! I always felt cared about when I called him to chat. Once I called and asked him a question about fire flies so he researched it for me and bought my kids a subscription to an Arkansas outdoor magazine. He was there for us Murphy boys when our mom and dad died. Wish I could come to the funeral but I work Friday and Monday. Love you cousins!

What a wonderful man; I still remember him taking Nick and I fishing on the White River many years ago as kids. Had a fantastic time them and always had a good time over at the Kinser house growing up.

What a great uncle.. My mother's twin brother. He outlived her by 20 years. Always a smile, always a joke, always a happy positive attitude, and occasionally some good advice. Was a joy to see him on all those beautiful Thanksgiving days through the golden years of youth. You know the truth now Ray... Give me a peek if you are allowed!
