of Heber Springs, AR
August 12, 1942 - November 5, 2014
Edward L. Roper 72, of Heber Springs, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2014. He was born August 12, 1942 to Loyce and Pauline (Schichtl) Roper.
His favorite brother was Jim Roper, and his favorite sister was Helen Roper. He married Janice "Necie" Moix Roper on June 10, 1961, and she remained his favorite wife for 53 years. He was a graduate of St Joseph's Catholic High School, Conway, AR, and faithfully supported this school, attending St. Joseph's Bazaar annually and winning more hams and bacons then should have been allowed.
He managed Sterling's Stores for many years in North Little Rock, Wynne, Stuttgart, and then moved his family to Heber Springs to manage Magic Mart. He ran a successful campaign for Mayor, and served as Mayor of Heber Springs from 1990 to 2002. His passion was antiques, and he opened AnnaBelle's Antique Store which was named after the grandchildren he had at the time, Madeline Belle and Anna Julia. He particulary loved buying and selling, and if you needed a kitchen sink, he had it. He loved and collected books, especiallly poetry, and visitors could only leave after choosing a book from his library.
He loved hunting and fishing, playing poker, watching the Cardinals (both the birds and the baseball players). He was a member of St. Albert's Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club, and many other civic groups.
He is survived by his wife, Janice "Necie" Moix Roper, whom he was married to for 53 years. He was grateful for the love and support she showed him throughout his lengthy illness. He is also survived by his five children: Debbie (Jay), Brian (Melody), Kim, Greg (Lynn), and David (Meredith). His favorite was Kim, who had the best sense of humor and was chosen to write this. His pride and joy were his grandchildren: Madeline Roper, John Martin and Katy Kincannon, Ella, Emily, and Max Roper, and Anna and Abby Rand. He was predeceased by his mother, Pauline Roper, his father, Loyce Roper, and an infant sister.
Family will gather with friends at 1:00pm and Funeral Mass will be 2:00pm Sunday, November 9, 2014 at St. Albert's Catholic Church Heber Springs, Arkansas with Father Mathew Malapati officiating. Family will receive friends after mass in the Parish Hall. We love you Pop!
