Virginia Ruth Lackey Moore

of Little Rock, AR

August 25, 2014

Virginia Ruth Lackey Moore, 86, of Little Rock, Arkansas, was born in Pulaski, Illinois and went to be with the Lord on August 25, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Jacob Lackey and Meddie Belle Grimmer Lackey.

At the age of 5, she met a young boy in her neighborhood named Harold Ray ''Radie'' Moore who, over time, became the love of her life. They courted the entire 4 years while Radie was serving in the Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Shortly after Radie returned from the war, Virginia and Radie were married in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas on February 23, 1946. They spent the next 68 years of their wonderful marriage together and were blessed to have four children, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Virginia was devoted to her husband and family and she was dearly loved by them all. Virginia was an optimistic, adventurous and loving woman who never met a stranger. She lived life to its fullest, traveled the world and made friends everywhere she went. She loved to make greeting cards and helped form a monthly organization, RSVP, dedicated to friendship and crafting. In 1969, Virginia earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Texas at El Paso and, after moving to Arkansas, taught 8th through 12th grade English at Black Rock High School.

She is survived by her husband, Radie, her four children, Dr. Terrence Lee Moore and his wife Karen, Dr. Linda Ruth Moore, David Ray Moore and his wife Sandie, and Melissa Moore Yates and her husband Doug. Her grandchildren include Russell Moore and his wife, Diane, Kevin Moore and his wife, Dawn, Christopher Moore and his wife, Allison, and Sam Yates. Virginia is also survived by seven great grandchildren and by her brother Thomas Jacob Lackey, Jr. and his wife, Marlene.

She was preceded in death by her sister Janet Lackey Irwin.

Visitation will be held at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway Little Rock, Arkansas on Thursday, August 28 between 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Fellowship Bible Church, 1401 Kirk Rd. in Little Rock on Friday, August 29 at 3:00 pm with Reverend Bill Parkinson officiating. Burial will be at Lawrence Memorial Cemetery in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to HD Reach Huntingon's Disease Foundation of North Carolina, 1004 Dresser Ct, Ste # 107, Raleigh, North Carolina, 27609-7325. (919) 803-8128. www.HDReach.org

I know what a loss this is for the family and my heart goes out to you. I only knew Virginia for 3 weeks on a cruise, but I know what a special person she was. I loved her fun attitude and sense of humor and enthusiasm. I grew quite attached to her and felt as though I'd always known her. I wish I could have known her a lot longer.

I was so sorry to see your Mother's obituary in today's Jonesboro Sun. I hope to juggle tomorrow's schedule so that I can attend the burial service in Walnut Ridge.

We'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

The world is a much sadder place with the loss of Virginia. She was one of the sweetest and kindest people I have ever known and lived her life as we all should. A wonderful life. She shared so much of herself with us all and that will be missed. I hope she got that Hummer in heaven!
Love you Virginia.

I met Virginia a few years ago when I was looking for instructors for craft classes for the Ark. State Extension Homemakers convention. I especially wanted our members to learn to make greeting cards & Virginia & her friend did a beautiful job for us. I dropped in on RSVP from time to time---mostly to see Virginia who was a truly good and talented lady. She shared her talent so unselfishly. She will be greatly missed.
My prayers are with her family & friends-especially RSVP.
