Mary Marquerite Rips

of Batavia, AR

October 2, 1913 - June 14, 2012

Mary Marguerite Rips, age 98, of Harrison, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 14, 2012. Mary was born to Charles C. and Emma May (Alley) McGrew on October 2, 1913, in San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene H. Rips; her son, Charles Eugene Rips Sr.; two brothers, Charles Louis McGrew and Alley Barber McGrew; two sisters, Esther Hardin and Maedelle Wrightsman; and a grandson, Charles Eugene Rips, Jr.

Marguerite was a member of the Alpena United Methodist Church. She was always ''thankful for God, who loves us all forever'', and she served her family, neighbors, and the Alpena United Methodist Church with love. Marguerite married Eugene H. Rips on December 25, 1937. She was a member of the RSVP, the Batavia Friendship Club and the Alpena Quilting Club.

Since 1958, Mrs. Rips was an active member of the Alpena United Methodist Church and many offices of the United Methodist Women where she served as a Lay Leader on the church board; as the Sunday school superintendent and a teacher; a member of the church choir; and often brought lovely flowers from her to adorn the church altar. Until her recent illnesses, Marguerite worshipped each Sunday, sitting in the church pew that held the name of the Rips family---for in earlier years, to the Glory of God-Eugene and Marguerite had assisted in purchasing pews and hymnals for the historic Alpena Methodist Church.

She is survived by her great-grandson, Josh M. Rips, of Harrison, Arkansas, her granddaughter, LaDonna Davidson, of Fort Smith, Arkansas; her grandson, Tony Daniels, of Liberty, Oklahoma; and great-great-granddaughter, Aaliyha. She is also survived by two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Family gathering and funeral service was on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with Bro. Les Bailey officiating.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

How blest I have been to have been a part of your life these past years, but especially the past two & a half years...Many were the times that I went to see you thinking I should cheer you up...but it was always reversed! You brought joy to my heart just spending time with you...May you rest in the hands of the One you loved and served these many years...
