Larry Waschka

of Little Rock, AR

July 2, 1962 - November 5, 2004

Larry Waschka, age 42 passed away on Friday, November 5th, 2004. He was vacationing with his family in Ixtapa, Mexico when he drowned while body surfing in the Pacific Ocean when the waves threw him to the bottom of the ocean and he was knocked unconscious. Larry had a love for the water and all water sports. He was a competition slalom, wakeboarder, and barefoot skier; he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and anything that involved the great outdoors.

Larry was the President of Waschka Capital Investments, a firm that he started from scratch in 1990 with only 12 clients and $3 million under management and built up to a company with over $110 million under management. He was voted the past four years one of the Top 100 Financial Advisors in the United States and wrote numerous articles for newspapers and other publications, had his own radio show and was on numerous T.V. shows over the years including appearances on CNN-FN, CNBC, MSNBC and Bloomberg TV. He wrote three books including, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Getting Rich, published by Macmillan Company in 1996 that sold over 110,000 copies.

He was a long time Board Member and supporter of the Centers for Youth and Families, a member of the Camp Aldersgate Board; he was a Big Brother in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program, and the Chairman of the Club 99 Foundation for the Rotary Club of Little Rock. Although he'd accomplished so much at the young age of 42 Larry was always busy striving to get better and he had so much more yet to do. It will not be his business success that he is remembered for but how much fun he was to be around. He was also the type of friend that was always there for you in tough times.

He is survived by his wife Jessica Dolan Waschka whom he was thrilled to marry on October 25, 2003, and to call her the love of his life. He is also survived by his father, Lawrence Waschka, Sr.; his mother, Beverly Brewer; his stepmother, Julie Waschka; his stepfather, John Thomas Brewer; one brother, Paul Waschka; his paternal grandmother, Anna Elizabeth Waschka; two stepbrothers, Robert Paterson and Christian Brewer; and one stepsister, Lee Ann Herndon and a host of other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Edward Waschka; his maternal grandfather, Harvey E. Paul, Jr. and his maternal grandmother, Bonita Glaze Paul.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 11, 2004 at the St. James United Methodist Church in Little Rock with Cary Martin officiating. Other speakers will also participate.

Friends may the visit at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home in Little Rock (501-224-8300) from 12 noon until 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 10, 2004 and the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Centers for Youth & Families, P.O. Box 251970, Little Rock, AR 72225 or the Rotary Club of Little Rock, 2821 Kavanaugh Boulevard, Suite 1B, Little Rock, AR 72205.

He has affected my life for the better. His Getting rich book has had aprofound impact on my life and that of my wife and children. His simple teachings and enthusiastic writing style have kept me focused and determined over the last few years. I was reviewing my getting rich book and am on the cusp of achieving wealth level 2 and was curious to see if Mr. Waschka had any new material out there. I was surfing the net and sadly found out about his death. Just a note to his family from a very grateful reader and fan.

We are very saddened to hear of your loss. Larry, Paul and Beverly (PQ) were a part of my life when I was very young. I will always remember those times with ya'll, Roger, Julie, Chris and Camille. Lawrence and Beverly, you must be very proud of the man Larry became. As a mother I grieve for you as much as I do for Larry. Our thoughts and prayers are and have been with you all.

To Larry's family, friends and wife Jessica: I am so saddened by Larry's departure from this life. I met Larry a number of years ago and was fortunate to have been able to have spent a number of weekends on Greers Ferry Lake with Larry and friends skiing and having a great time. Larry was a very generous, funny and bright man. After reading all of the loving tributes submitted it is apparent that he left an indelible mark on everyone with whom he came in contact. I, like many, wish I had stayed in touch over the years as I know my life would have been greatly enriched by having done so. Larry's departure has given me the opportunity to reflect upon how precious life is and how important it is to make the most of the short time we have with the people we love. For that Blessing-I thank you Larry.

My best college memories involved Larry and our mutual friends - we had great times together! Larry was a great guy and I knew in college he would be successful because of his passion and hard work. Larry was charming, fun, caring and had such a great sense of humor. My heart goes out to Jessica, Larry's parents, and Paul. I thank God for memories because that is how we keep those we lose with us forever. My prayers are with you all. We will miss you, Larry. Love, Susan Whiteside Roberts

Please know that I send my thoughts and prayers to you all during this tough time. Larry was such a special guy and leaves such a legacy of friends, and family behind. I knew him in college. We had classes together, and shared friends at church. He was always a great inspiration to me and a bright spot in the "duldrums" of our finance classes. I am so proud of what he has done and and the lives he has touched, and I know you all are going to miss him greatly. Again, please know that you are all in my prayers in this tough time. Robin Hall

To The Waschka Family: Larry and I went to Parkview and graduated in 1980. At the last class reunion, it was really nice to have seen him after 20 years. We all talked about how much we have changed. My heart was sadden by the lost of another classmate. My prayers are with all of you. Larry was a very nice and sweet person. He will truly be missed by the Class of 1980 from Parkview . Psalms 121 says" Look to the hills from whence cometh your help, ALL of your help, cometh from the LORD". Please look to the Lord for strength. Ask of him anything that you will and I know HE will answer all your prayer. May God bless and keep you is my prayer. Teresa Seals Sims

Dear Family, I am a wife of a Corona distributor from New Jersey and was at the LasBrisas Resort last week during the accident. My husband and I were walking on the beach and were standing on the shore with others trying to do anything we could to help any of you during that difficult time. We prayed as you did and kept hoping there was something we could do. You probably do not remember us but we both tried to embrace and support all of you at your time of need and now feel somewhat connected in sharing the great memories we see of Larry's life. We are sure you are proud of Larry's acomplishments in business and his obvious deication to his family. Larry and all of you will constantly be in our thoughts and prayers.
