Velta Owen, 89, of Batesville died Friday, May 25, 2007. She was born on February 16, 1918 in Zion, Arkansas and was the daughter of James L. Dobbins and Nora (Wall) Dobbins. Velta was a homemaker and a seamstress and member of the First Baptist Church of Batesville. She was also a member of the Sunshine Club at the First Baptist Church. She is survived by three nieces: Helen Smith of Marshall, Irene Thompson of Blytheville, Lorene Lamb of Pleasant Plains; and three nephews: Lenn Dobbins of Blytheville, Glen Dobbins and Eugene Dobbins both of Manila, Arkansas. Other than her parents, Velta was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Owen; one sister, Pearl Gray; six brothers, Austin, Elmer, Owen, Leeman, Garland and Leonard Dobbins; one niece, Elnora Jane Dobbins McGuffy; and one nephew Johnnie Dobbins. Graveside services are to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the Oaklawn Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Charles Taylor, Dr. Cheney Taylor and Dr. Bob Smith. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Monday at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
