Mary Eleanor Kummer

of Charlotte, NC

December 28, 1924 - July 14, 2018

Mary Eleanor Kummer died on July 14, 2018 at age 93 in Charlotte, NC, surrounded by loving family. She will be remembered as a strong, witty woman who loved being social and always had a funny story to share. A businesswoman, wife, and mother, she was unapologetically herself and still cared deeply for her family and friends.

Mary Eleanor was born in Helena, Arkansas, on December 28, 1924 to parents Herbert J. Bradfield and Mary Lee Boren Bradfield. In 1943 she married Raymond L. Kummer, with whom she had two sons.

Mary Eleanor's parents owned Bradfield Printing Company. After her father died in 1943, her mother took over operations at the company. Over time, Mary Eleanor began working there as well and gradually took over day-to-day management of the company. In the 1960s Mary Eleanor and Raymond opened The Green Banana, a gift shop which adjoined Bradfield Printing Company. They ran both businesses until selling them in 1983.

Mary Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Raymond and two half-brothers, Everett F. Bradfield and H. N. ''Buddy'' Bradfield. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond (Brad) and Frances Kummer of Washington, DC, and Kurt and Beverly Kummer of Bristol, TN; her five grandchildren, Jennifer Moore, Kellie Foster, Michael Kummer, Elizabeth O'Sullivan, and David Kummer; and her eight great-grandchildren.

She will live on in our lives and memories through the incredible stories she loved to share and her infectious gift of humor. May she rest in peace.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 21 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in West Helena. Services will be arranged by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of West Helena. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Helena First United Methodist Church where she was a lifelong member.

So sorry for your loss may you find peace and comfort in the words spoken at 2 Corinthians 1:3 & 4" Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trial with the comfort that we receive from God
