Joyce Juanita Treece

of Leslie, AR

March 15, 1931 - June 18, 2018

Joyce Juanita Treece, age 87 of Leslie, Arkansas passed from this life on Monday, June 18th, 2018 at her home. She was born in Searcy County, Arkansas on March 15th, 1931 to Oscar Columbus Cates and Cora Elizabeth Branum Cates.

Joyce, aka Granny, was an active member of Leslie First Baptist Church for well over fifty years. She enjoyed singing, traveling, square dancing, a good practical joke and helping others. Joyce loved life and all the different experiences and people who were a part of it, especially her family. Christmas at her house might have been her favorite thing in the world, not just because it was an unofficial family reunion or an excuse to buy crazy gifts for everyone, but also for the opportunity it provided her to serenade kids and grandkids with her version of ''Cowboy Sweetheart'' that always included a demonstration of her yodeling skills. That was our Granny, always game. She will be missed by those who knew her but we celebrate her homecoming in Heaven. God is Great!

Survivors include her children, Deborah Treece Thompson and husband Jan, Charles Edwin Treece and wife Tammy and Kenneth Bradley Treece; grandchildren, Joshua Thompson and wife Lindsey, Caleb Thompson and wife Jill, Treece Beck and husband Noah, Brook Yarbrough and husband Alan, Kelsey Briggs and husband John, Hailey Gaines Chadick and Hannah Treece; great-grandchildren, Caden Wallis, Bella Yarbrough, Eliza Beck, Dasher Beck, Teddy Beck and Luke Briggs; and one brother, Clifford Cates and wife Johnny.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jasper Wayne Treece who passed away in 2016; and her siblings, Lilburn Cates, Selmer Cates, Lloyd Cates, Willie Massey, Stanley Cates, Berlene Morrison, Edwin Cates and Doyle Cates.

Funeral services for Joyce will be 2:00 PM Friday, June 22nd, 2018 at Leslie First Baptist Church with Bro. Chris Reade and Bro. Alan Yarbrough officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 till 8:00 PM Thursday, June 21st, 2018 at Roller-Coffman Funeral Home in Marshall, Arkansas. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joshua Thompson, Caleb Thompson, Caden Wallis, Keith Cates, Ronnie Housley and Fred Fendley.

We could solve the world problems over a tuna salad sandwich and prayer. What a wonderful friend, one of a kind. Love and miss her. May God give you all comfort and fill your hearts with beautiful memories.

Joyce was a kind, good hearted, warm and caring person. I will miss seeing her and hearing her say “How you?” when I go to Leslie to visit because she was like family. Joyce had a really good sense of humor too. I will always treasure the memory of her singing “Cowboy’s Sweetheart” at my wedding reception. She had us all laughing and singing. It was great day. I pray that the Lord will give peace and comfort to her family and friends in the day ahead.
