Harry Andrew Justvig, 89, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the VA Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.

He was born on December 5, 1928, in Sebastopol, California, the son of Rev. Harry S. Justvig and Ruth G. Hessel. Rev. Justvig worked, until retirement, for the Salvation Army. The family lived in the Chicago region before settling in Kansas.

Harry A. Justvig graduated from Salina High School (KS) in 1947. He graduated from Wichita University (now Wichita State) in 1960, following the Korean War.

Harry was a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Army's 25th Infantry Division (nicknamed "Tropic Lightning.") This U. S. Army division conducted military operations in the Asia-Pacific region and was based in Hawaii. For his service during the Korean War, Harry was awarded the National Defense Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He is a member of the American Legion.

Following graduation from college, Harry first worked in accounting in Salina, KS. From there he moved to the Kansas City area (Mission, KS) where he worked in hospital accounting and later worked for Farmland Industries until retirement.

Harry's lifelong passion was playing the violin. He began playing at a very young age and dreamed of going to Julliard, until the war. Harry played in the Pittsburgh State Symphony Orchestra, the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, the Northland Symphony Orchestra (North Kansas City,) and the St. George Symphony Orchestra. Often, he would play music for local events, church events & services.

He was an avid football fan who loved his Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas State Wildcats. He had an opportunity to see many college & professional football games across the U.S., Canada & Europe while following his son's coaching career.

Harry was always an active member of his church, wherever he lived. He served as a deacon, enjoyed men's group activities, Sunday School and all church activities '''' especially the pot luck dinners. Presently, he was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ottawa, KS.

On June 8, 1958, Harry was united in marriage with Shirley M. Lohrey of Augusta, KS. They shared 59 years of loving marriage.

Harry is survived by his son, Harry W. Justvig, Little Rock, AR; daughter, Lisa D. Justvig-Etter; sister, Sylvia Crum, Eureka, KS: sister, Esther Justvig-Ference, Dewey, AZ; granddaughter,
Samantha C. Burton (Jason); grandson, H. Andrew Justvig, Provo, UT, grandson, Aaron G. Justvig, St. George, UT; granddaughter, Hannah J. Justvig, St. George, UT; two great-grandchildren, Isaac and Alex Burton; sister-in-law, Jan Cornelius, Topeka, KS; sister-in-law, Connie Turner (Bill), Augusta, KS; brother-in-law, Jerry Lohrey (Dawn), Moro, OR and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents; his brother, Ronald Justvig and his sister, Marla Justvig-Vaughn.

The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses from the VA Hospital and the University of Missouri Hospital for their incredible care of Harry.

A visitation is scheduled in Little Rock, AR at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home on February 22, 2018 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.

Funeral services will be conducted by Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta, Kansas on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 12:00 pm. Graveside service and burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta, KS and will include a military Honor Guard. Their website is: www.dunsford-zeiner.com
