Danny Burleson

July 4, 1943 - October 30, 2017

Danny Burleson was introduced as Heaven's "brand newest member" on October 30, 2017.

Danny married the love of his life, Mary Anne Stroud on August 1, 1965. He raised three daughters who loved him dearly: Kim, Kari and Kristin. He considered his sons-in-law, Tim and Robert, as his own. He was the very best Papa and "Pardno" to Jackson, Mary Kathryn, Sarah, Matthew and Jonathan. He was Uncle Bull to many nieces and nephews. He loved his family unconditionally. He was their great protector, their comforter, their rock.

In his younger years, Danny excelled at every sport he tried: baseball, basketball, and golf. He was awarded a college basketball scholarship, he was invited to pitch for a major league baseball team, and he hit more than one hole in one. He loved the game, the competition, and especially the winning.

All of Danny's adult life was spent ministering to others-whether to his church families, Sixth and Izard, Highland Oaks, Chenal Valley and Windsong Church of Christ or to his community in numerous ways including as a chaplain of the Arkansas State Police (badge #007) and a supporter of Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Danny was also a great friend to many. He never met a stranger. He knew how to connect with people of all walks of life. He was a natural born story teller, a jokester and he knew how to work a room. He was one of a kind.

Danny Delbert Burleson was born in England, Arkansas on July 4, 1943. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Delbert and Edith, and his sister, Carolyn. He is survived by his wife, Mary Anne; his daughters: Kim Burleson of Little Rock, Kari and Robert Wicker of Greenville, MS, and Kristin and Tim Wood of Cheyenne, WY; his grandchildren, Jackson and Jonathan Wood and Mary Kathryn, Sarah and Matthew Wicker; his brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Betty Burleson of Little Rock and many nieces and nephews.

Danny was known for loving acts of kindness. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you honor his memory by buying a stranger a meal, high five/thumb wrestle a child, make someone laugh, give someone a hug...and always remember to tell your family you love them.

Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Windsong Church of Christ, 3 Windsong Drive, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72113, burial will follow at Keo Cemetery in Keo, Arkansas. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m.

If you are able to attend, we would ask that you consider bringing a written story/memory. He was special to us and we would like to know how he was special to you.

Mary Ann,
We were so sorry to learn of Danny’s death when Sue called. He was a great guy. Even my son recalled meeting him several times when his friend , Paul, was ill. He always left a great Christian impression. I loved reading his obituary. It was so special. I know your friends will be there for you in the months ahead. You are loved by everyone too. Praying for you!

Danny was one of my favorite Christian gentleman of all. He and Mary Ann and the kids were wonderful to my family. He was always ready for a laugh and lots of times at my expense! But he was always kind and loved us all. We hear on earth have lost a true gift of humanity. Heaven is a lot more fun with him there now. No fought he's having a great time!

Danny was a kind, compassionate, wise, person with an understanding of and love for every person he met. His great sense of humor was endearing. He will be greatly missed by his family, his many friends, all those who knew and loved him. My deepest sympathies to Mary Anne and the entire family; but we will all see Danny again some day. Maybe Danny and Dad are getting a golf game together in Heaven. God bless, Mike

We are praying for you Mary Anne and the girls. This came as a shock to us and was hard to believe. Even though I know he is in a better place, it doesn't make it any easier. We have all known each other since we were young adults at Sixth and Izard. Because of Danny's friendly and loving personality he will be missed by a lot of people. Just know we are thinking of you all every day.

With love and prayers.

My heart just broke when I received the news today from Arkansas State Police Retired Captain Buddy Young about Danny. My deepest sympathy and condolences to Danny's family and friends. I was fortunate enough to have met Danny several years ago through ASP Retired Captain Mark Allen and Buddy. Danny also served as our State Police Chaplain. He would come visit us in Governor's Security, and when he walked in, his smile and sense of humor lit up the room. I also got to see him one last time, months ago, at Texas Roadhouse in NLR, and he had that same smile and we got to visit a minute. He was a good and caring Godly man, and will be missed by many. May God Bless you all!

My thoughts and prayers are with the family, Danny was a role model for a lot of us that grew up in the 70's attending 6th and Izard. You always knew where you stood with Danny. As a teenager I could always expect a hand crushing hand shake every Sunday morning as I left the church and saw Danny at the door. He will be missed by all that knew him.

I remember Danny as a high school goofball, one of the "3 Amigos" type guy. You could not be sad around Danny. His long and lanky legs were always moving. I was surprised to learn that he had become a minister, but pleased to know that he had found his calling in life. I saw him more recently at our high school reunion. He sat with my husband and me for a short time, never seeming to care that more than 50 years had passed since we'd walked the halls of SHHS. God needed an angel to keep a little humor in heaven, so Danny was his first choice. When I see the sunrise dancing over my mountain, I'll know that Danny is there bouncing it ever upward.

I’ve only known Mr. Danny a short time but the moment I met him in Sunday school class I felt like he was a good friend. He was so funny, and caring and a fine example of a Christian man. Church will not be the same without him passing out donut holes and telling us his stories. I’m so very sorry for your loss and so honored I got to know him even for a short time. I will miss him dearly. Heaven gained an incredible angel. God bless you Mary Ann, you are in my prayers.
