Elsie Rue Cope

of Harrison, AR

May 31, 1925 - October 16, 2017

Elsie Rue Cope, age 92, of Harrison, passed to her Heavenly home Monday, October 16, 2017, in Harrison. Elsie, a long time resident of Harrison, was born May 31, 1925, in Murillo, Van Buren County, Arkansas, the daughter of Fonzo and Verbie (Reves) Scott.

After retirement from North Arkansas College, Elsie dedicated her time to volunteer work. She spent countless hours volunteering at the Senior Center, RSVP, local Soup Kitchens, and Area Blood Drives. Elsie's mother passed away when she was twelve and with two younger brothers, she started taking care of others at a young age. She was quick to say that family and neighbors all pulled together to get them through the tough times....neighbors were an extended family in those days. The girls have told through the years about Elsie always having an extra place setting for strangers that would stop by their home looking for food. She often quoted Hebrews 13:2 "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." She loved the Lord and was an active member of Olvey Bible Church.

Elsie was proud of her ancestors and organized many Scott-Reves-Clutts family reunions. She was passionate about her family and was happiest when she could cook them a meal or do something to help one of the kids. Elsie enjoyed spending time with her numerous friends. Those that knew her enjoyed her kind heart and clever wit.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard Cope; her brother, Charles Scott; her sister, Susie Scott Brantley; and her grandsons, Paul Brasel and Davin Oliphant.

She is survived by her brother, Martin Scott; three daughters, Ann Mason, Linda Cantrell, and Jan Oliphant; five grandchildren, Becky Brasel Morse, Misty Cantrell, George Mason, Randy Cantrell and Danica Oliphant Rhodes; eight great-grandchildren, Pam Duck, Brad Duck, Matt Duck, Zayne Oliphant, Heather Stimeling, Kate Cantrell Sims, Sydney Oliphant Hawkins and Gavin Cantrell; four great-great-grandchildren, Charlotte Duck, Gunner Duck, Annie Duck and Ainslee Stimeling; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Pallbearers were George Mason, Randy Cantrell, Brad Duck, Matt Duck, Zayne Oliphant, Gavin Cantrell and Dustin Sims.

Funeral service was 2:00pm, Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Olvey Bible Church, with Brother Bobby Brown officiating. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

Elsie Cope was a special person. She was always concerned for the students when she worked at North Arkansas College. The Snack Bar was her production and what a fabulous production of food it was.
I did not know until I read her obituary that Davin had also passed. I am so sorry to have missed expressing my appreciation of Davin in a more timely manner.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
