Laverne (Elmo) Cooper, 78, of Weiner, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at his home. He was born August 28, 1939, in Weiner to Earl and Ellen (Maddox) Cooper. Mr. Cooper attended school in Weiner and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Midway Church of Christ, and served in the National Guard. He enjoyed playing beanbag baseball with the Weiner Cardinal Team. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals and spending time with his family. Mr. Cooper taught all five of his grandchildren to drive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Donald Ray Cooper.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Brenda Jewell Cooper; son, Larry Joe (Lynn) Cooper; daughter, Deana (Bill) Weeks; grandchildren, Jody Cooper, Weston (Zoe) Weeks, Shelby (Kyle) Day, Alden Weeks and Lynzee Cooper; brothers, Donald (Judy) Cooper and Ray (Lacretia) Cooper; sister, Anita (Vernon) Block; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and church family whom he loved.
Funeral service will be Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, Jonesboro, beginning at 10:00am with Llano Robinson and David Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Weiner. Pallbearers will be Clark Secrease, John Wofford, Nick Jackson, Robbie Boward, Tony Sullins and Steve Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Kevin Collins, Arkansas Home Hospice providers, Kim Dennis, Sherry McCoy, Janice Seehaver, Phillip Marshall, Terry Johnson, Terry Adams, Gary and Linda Walker, Tommy Wofford and Jerry Clark.
Visitation will be Friday, September 29, 2017, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, Jonesboro.
Lasting memorials can be made to Hospice Promise Foundation, 3024 Red Wolf Blvd, Ste 8, Jonesboro, AR, 72401, or the Weiner Volunteer Fire Department.

Our family is filled with loving caring people. Laverne was one of those. We will miss his sweet smile.. God is surely saying " Well done, my son".
Sorry for your loss. He fought a long hard battle with a terrible disease but the battle is over and he is at rest. Peace and love to his family.
