of Conway, AR
May 10, 1927 - September 12, 2017
Jodie Ray Brown, 90, of Conway, Arkansas, went to be with The Lord Tuesday, September 12, 2017. He was born May 10, 1927, in Shreveport, LA to the late Jodie Washington Brown and Era Beatrice (Cargill) Brown. Jodie was also preceded in death by his lovely wife of 64 years, Pauline ''Polly'' Erma (Bernard) Brown; and his daughter, Debbie Cumnock.
In his early years Jodie attended Bossier High School in Bossier City, LA and Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. He then served a short stint in the United States Navy. Jodie enjoyed a long career in the automobile industry. He started his career as a salesman at Holmes Pontiac in Shreveport, LA in the early 50's and then became sales manager. Having developed a passion for the car business, he began to search for a car dealership to buy. In 1969, Jodie was fortunate to have the opportunity to purchase Conway Motor Sales from the Ward family in Conway, AR. He was joined in that venture by two friends. Later, Jodie bought out his partners and the business was renamed Jodie Brown Motors. His work ethic served the business well, and as many will attest, he always treated his employees and customers as if they were family, which resulted in many close and lasting friendships.
Jodie spent many hours on his favorite pastime, mowing and watering his yard (and concrete!). When he wasn't doing that, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. But above all, he was most happy when he was spending time with his family, no matter what he was doing.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving family, daughters, Sandy Langston (Don) of Bigelow, AR, Kathy Blose (John) of Memphis, TN, and Paula Ehren (Grant) of Russellville, AR; grandchildren, Natalie Teed, Jason Cumnock, Jeff Cumnock all of Conway, AR, Michael Blose and Patrick Blose of Memphis, TN, Jodi Moore (Caleb) of Russellville, AR, and Tyler Ehren (Brigette) of Texarkana, TX; great-grandchildren, Mason Teed and Sydnie Teed of Conway, AR; sister, Beverly Reynolds (Curtis) of Kearney, MO; sister-in-law, Jeane Smith of Benton, LA; son-in-law, Tom Cumnock; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Jodie was fortunate to have many family members and friends who provided loving care to him during his illness, including his most recent caretakers, Brenda, Ruby, Kathy, Cindy and Amanda.
He will be greatly missed by all. His memory will live in our hearts forever and his ''Come on down to Jodie Brown'' jingle will remain with us for years to come.
Funeral Service will be held at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, AR Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 1:00 pm with visitation one hour prior with entombment to follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Conway, AR.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the
