Roger A. Frangieh

June 3, 1943 - September 11, 2017

Roger Frangieh of Maumelle was born in Jerusalem on June 3, 1943 to Antoine and Labibeh Meo Franjié. At the age of twelve, he lost his mother. His older sisters, Mary, Odette, Sylvie and Sonia assisted his father Antoine in raising the young boy and baby of the family. Roger was very close to his sisters throughout all of their lives and he is survived by both Sylvie and Sonia. While Roger immigrated to the United States, Sylvie (Safieh) now lives in Jerusalem and Sonia (Gauthey) in Switzerland. He became an American citizen on May 19, 1980.

Roger was working in Bahrain in 1982 when he met his future wife, Samia, at a family wedding in Jerusalem. Following a year's courtship, the couple married in Cyprus in 1983 and came back to the United States. Samia became a citizen on August 9, 1991. Together they moved throughout the world during Roger's long and cherished career running five-star hotels and restaurants in various cities both in the United States and overseas.

After several moves throughout the United States, Roger and Samia settled in Maumelle where he began his own business as an advertiser, publisher and photographer. The publication MauMag was a natural offshoot of his main interests. The magazine just celebrated its tenth anniversary, having touched virtually every household in the city.

Roger's health began deteriorating and in March, a heart irregularity caused a fall resulting in a brain bleed. Complications kept Roger in hospital care from March 23 until his death on September 11. He is survived by his two sisters, his wife, and innumerable cousins, nieces and nephews…as well as many, many friends.

God brings people together at the right time and and the right place in their lives. I feel privileged to have shared a portion of Roger's journey, if only as his client. He helped me to focus my art and spirituality project by setting up a web page for me. I so much enjoyed our conversations and his wisdom. I consider him one of my influential people on my own creative journey.

My prayers are with you in your time of sorrow, but I hope you remember the joy of his smile and his calm presence always. God bless your days and hold you close.

Samia and Family: My heartfelt condolences go out to you at this hour of your mourning. Roger was a fine man. He was a talented photographer as well. The 14x16 print out of a photo he took of me still hangs on my living room wall. I enjoyed working with him as a writer, and continue to cherish the time we spent over morning coffee at Starbucks here in Maumelle, sharing publishing/writing/photography stories. May you and your family find comfort at this hour knowing Roger was known as a fine man of purpose and integrity.

Sam I am so very sorry for your loss!!! Roger was such a sweet man, it was always a pleasure seeing you both at our city events and hug you and chat with you. He loved our town and the people in it, he always wanted to give back and help. Maumag was his way of saying thank you and expressing his feelings about his community. I will always remember his voice and kind words. Very special man!
I am here for you Sam anytime you need a friend to talk or a shoulder to cry on.
My deepest sympathy and God rest him in peace! He will be missed. Condolences from my husband Dave, he was deeply saddened when he heard about Roger passing.
All my love, Liliana
