of Fairfield Bay, AR

July 18, 1936 - August 29, 2017

James T. Summers, 81, of Fairfield Bay, AR passed away August 29 of 2017 from complications with Alzheimer's. He was born in Tulsa, OK on July 18th 1936 to James A. and Ella Summers. He graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1958. Shortly there after He began a career with Safeway Stores Inc. He served in various positions and eventually became Vice President of Manufacturing.

He married Judith Hughes and together they had daughter Laura and son Steven. Judith died in 1985 from complications from Multiple Sclerosis. He remarried in February of 1988 to Jean Hudson Chumbley in Walnut Creek, California who also had two Sons Chris and Scott Chumbley.

Jim served as a member of the Food Bank of Contra Costa County in California. Jim and Jean retired to Fairfield Bay, AR in 1993. He became active in the community serving on the Blue Ribbon Committee, the Marketing Committee, and 7 years as President of the Chamber of Commerce. Jim and Jean became active members of Peace Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 29 years Jean Summers, Daughter Laura of California, Sons Steve of Arizona, Chris of Arkansas, and Scott of Missouri as well as 9 grand children and 3 great grand children.

A celebration of his life will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Edgemont, AR on Friday September 1st at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Peace Lutheran Church.
