Lonetta Rutherford

of West Memphis, AR

November 13, 1943 - August 19, 2017

Lonetta Lenard Rutherford
November 13, 1943 - August 19, 2017

On November 13, 1943, a brown eyed, cotton haired baby girl was born to Lonnie Bug Lenard and Pauline Mross Lenard in the sleepy town of Fisher, Arkansas.

The most important date in the timeline of her life was a summer Sunday night in 1957. It was the night before the youth in her church were headed to youth camp in Hot Springs, Arkansas. That night at Laurel Street Assembly of God church in Hickory Ridge, Arkansas, Lonetta gave her heart to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It was that date that changed the trajectory of her life and her eternity.

Not long after, she met the love of her life, Charles Rutherford. The two united their hearts and lives in a marriage covenant on June 6, 1959, in Waxahachie, Texas. Married at the young age of 15, she devoted herself to her husband. She and Charles had two daughters Tammie and Dorinda.

Lonetta's life was marked by faithfulness to her Savior, devotion to family, and hospitality to friends and loved ones. She impacted many by her genuine love and compassion. Lonetta and Charles opened their home and dinner table to family friends- especially to the friends of her daughters during their teen years.

She was a faithful prayer warrior. Only eternity will tell of the lives changed by her life of intercessory prayer. Lonetta Rutherford was a member of First Assembly of God in West Memphis, Arkansas, since 1972. She was a diligent giver to the church and missions. As a young woman, she believed in the ministry to young girls, Missionettes, now known as Girls Ministry Program. She was a successful Missionette Coordinator for Bethel Assembly of God and First Assembly of God, both in Russellville, Ar. She also served as the Missionette Director and Coordinator for years in West Memphis First Assembly of God.

Lonetta loved her husband and her daughters. Her devoted husband, Charles was her loving and attentive caregiver during the last year. Although plagued by heart complications her entire life, she always sacrificed her time and energy to see to the needs of her family. No one will argue that her pride and joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Even in her last days and hours, her eyes would light up for these dear ones.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Pauline Lenard. She is survived by her husband, Charles Rutherford of West Memphis, AR; her daughters- Tammie Parrish and husband Ronnie of Marked Tree and Dorinda and husband Rusty of Searcy, AR; two sisters- Shirley Jackson of Orange Beach, Alabama, and Millie and Dail Lace of Caldwell, New Jersey.
She leaves her grandchildren Deanna Branch and her husband Ben, of Marked Tree; Glenda McMath and her husband Brad, of Nixa, Missouri, Jordan Blann and his wife Natalie, of Springdale, Mackenzie Blann of Searcy, Kaylee Parrish of Marked Tree, Taylor Blann of Searcy, Kevin Parrish and his wife Heather of Wilburn, and Kara Parrish of Jonesboro. She is also survived by great grand children, Macy, Mia and Micah Mcmath, Addison, Levi and Luke Branch, and Trisity and River Parrish.

Among the many friends and family who loved her, she leaves behind dear family friends, Ulyss Kay and Yvonne Smith of Berryville, Ar, and their children and grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in laws, and cousins will also miss her loving heart.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution be made in Lonetta's name to the building fund of the First Assembly of God Church of West Memphis.
