Winifred "Winnie" C. Parsons

of Holland, AR

December 10, 1947 - August 3, 2017

Winifred Catherine ''Winnie'' (Phayer) Parsons, 69, of Holland, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, at her home. Born Dec. 10, 1947, in Denver, Colorado, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Else (Schneider) Phayer, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Conway where she was active in the Ministry of Consolation.

Winnie graduated from Evergreen (Colorado) High School in 1966 and came to the University of Arkansas, where she earned a B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1970. On Aug. 28, 1970, she married Charles E. Parsons and devoted herself to raising their two sons, Charlie and John. Once her boys were older, she began working in the South Mississippi County (AR) School District as a social worker. Later she attended UALR and earned a master's degree in Social Work in 1986. Following her graduation, she started her career as a Licensed Medical Social Worker for the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans' Hospital in Little Rock, where she retired in 2009. She had a special place in her heart for veterans and worked to provide an unsurpassed level of caring and compassion to all who were lucky enough to cross her path.

While growing up she participated in the 4-H program in Jefferson County, Colorado, and later was active as an adult leader in 4-H in Faulkner County. She enjoyed reading, working outdoors in her yard and around the family farm, and traveling.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Charles E. Parsons; two sons, Charles D. Parsons and John V. Parsons, both of Holland; a sister, Rosemary Skiles of Conifer, CO; five nieces and one nephew; and countless friends.

Funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Tony Robbins at 10 a. m. Tuesday, Aug. 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Chapel, 1115 College Avenue, Conway. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the charity of your choice.

Winnie was a thoughtful, caring, and loving person whom I had the pleasure of working with at the V.A. She always had a kind word and good sense of humor. I remember her telling me she was retiring as we sat in her office looking at the figurines . She couldn't wait to spend time at home watching the birds. The family is in my prayers.

I meet Winnie at the VA when my husband was there. She was not our assigned case manager , but she made sure everything I needed or questions I had were answered. She went above and beyond for me in my time of distress. She was a lovely lady. My prayers are with the family during this time.

Our prayers and condolences to Winnie's family and friends, Earth will be less bright with her smile and huge giving heart gone. Although I did not work with Winnie directly during her VA career we suffered through many meetings together. It was so obvious Winnie was very passionate for veterans and their families. She will be missed in this world but God took one of his angels and Heaven is Blessed.

We cannot adequately express our sorrow and sympathy over the loss of our dear friend, Winnie. A finer person never lived. If every person on earth was like Winnie Parsons, there would be no hate, no anger, no war, no trouble. We were privileged to know this precious soul, and to call her our friend. What a great day it will be when we meet again.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there.
I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there.
I did not die.

I will remember Winnie as an old soul with a great big heart for anyone who was in distress, especially the bereaved when she volunteered with me at the Ministry of Consolation. My heart goes out to you in the loss of your wife and mother. She is certainly irreplaceable . I pray to God to comfort you in your loss and sorrow, to be your refuge and strength and lift you from the depths of grief into the peace and light of His presence.
