Sherry Lynn Dahinden

of Little Rock, AR

December 24, 1947 - June 10, 2017

Sherry Lynn Dahinden (nee Foster) of Little Rock, died peacefully in Hospice care in the North Little Rock Baptist hospital on June 10th at the age of 69. Sherry is survived by her husband; Eric, her son; Brian, daughter-in-law; Malory and her granddaughter; Eleanor. She is preceded in death by her parents; Ted and Pearl Foster of Santa Ana, California.

Sherry was born on December 24th, 1947 at the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point located in New Bern, North Carolina to Ted and Pearl Foster. She graduated from California State College, Long Beach in 1970 with a degree in Fine Arts as a music major and followed that with a certification for elementary education. She began teaching elementary music in Orange County California. She married Eric Dahinden who also majored in Music in 1972. Eric became a Naval Officer which began an adventure that took them all around the United States and to several overseas locations. While stationed in Seattle, Washington, their son, Brian arrived. After moving to Norfolk Virginia, Sherry pursed an interest in accounting through classes at Old Dominion University. She became a certified public accountant and started working in that field in both Monterey and later Coronado California, and then in Northern Virginia as the family moved for various Navy assignments.

Upon her husband's retirement from the Navy in 1995, the couple pursued the high calling as missionary's with the family and marriage ministry of CRU (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ) known as FamilyLife. Sherry used her accounting skills as part of the finance department. She also assisted her husband in the work he did at the FamilyLife conferences know as a Weekend to Remember™ She truly loved seeing couples reconcile and God healing marriages through these events.

Sherry started experiencing neurological symptoms in 1990. She was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1991. This disease gave Sherry a whole new dependence on her Savior, as she leaned on Jesus for her strength day to day. In 2005 she underwent deep brain stimulation surgery at Barnes Jewish hospital in Saint Louis. This procedure helped her better manage her disease and restored a measure of quality of life that made her most appreciative of the excellent team of doctors at Washington University in Saint Louis that performed the procedure. Despite her medical obstacles, Sherry continued to be active with FamilyLife and traveled with her husband. Sherry retired in 2011 due to her medical condition. However, even in retirement she often researched topics to provide professional education for her finance department teammates.

All who knew Sherry expressed what a sweet, tender person she was. Her family remembers her that way and adds that she was invested in them; she loved them; she was ''all in'' for her husband and son.

Sherry was a member of Immanuel Bible Church in Springfield Virginia where she particularly loved singing in the choir and working as a part of their accounting group. Since moving to Little Rock in 1998 as missionaries, Sherry attended Fellowship Bible Church until the couple joined a new outreach in 2011 known as Redeemer Community Church. Sherry had a tender and generous heart, she was bright and witty with a wonderful sense of humor and a talent for composition and teaching that benefited all who knew her. She particularly loved music, with an extra fondness for southern gospel and Christmas songs. She loved her savior Jesus and trusted Him for not only her salvation but for her daily walk.

Services to remember Sherry and her life well lived will be held at FamilyLife headquarters in Little Rock, Arkansas on Tuesday, June 13th at 3:30 pm. A second service for the community that built into her life and helped launch Sherry and her husband into ministry will be held at Immanuel Bible Church in Springfield, VA on a date to be determined. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Sherry's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Washington University School of Medicine. Eric ... it has been my distinct pleasure to know you, and your sweet wife, Sherry. I have yet to experience the difficult path you now must walk; however, I am confident that your unshakable faith will sustain you once again. I admire your courage, faith, and lifelong commitment to our glorious Savior. May God be glorified in Sherry's life, and home-going. May He continue to use you in pointing people to the mystery of Christ - in you.

In His Grace, Mercy, and Love ...
