Cecelia Rose Cochran Cavin

July 4, 1940 - February 10, 2017

Cecelia Rose Cochran Cavin, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, died peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Evergreen Living Center in Bryant, AR. Born on the 4th of July in 1940 in Sylvester, Georgia, Rose was a natural born firecracker. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Rosa Lee Cochran, her brother, James Robert Cochran, and her husband of almost 50 years, Clint Cavin, Jr. She was strong and feisty yet incredibly compassionate as she devoted herself to caring for her family.

With much pride in her Georgia roots, Rose loved telling stories about her childhood and the fun she had with her aunts and uncles, siblings and cousins. She often amused others by using clichés that she learned while growing up in the Deep South. She had an infectious laugh and was always the life of the party. A true diva, she never left the house without 'putting her face on', and she had a keen sense of fashion.

She moved to Arkansas in her early twenties and took a job with Worthen Bank & Trust Company in Little Rock. A few years after marrying Clint, they moved to Lonoke, AR to raise their family and begin an era of farming. During this time, she owned and operated a small country store that became a gathering place for the residents in the Woodlawn community. While working at the store, she loved conversing with her neighbors and organizing Saturday night pickin' and grinnin' events to showcase the talented musicians in the area.

Rose adored her five children. She loved helping with events and activities in which they were involved, and she made certain that their friends felt welcome in the home. Rose's family and friends were the fortunate beneficiaries of her amazing culinary skills. In the mid-80's, Rose and Clint moved back to North Little Rock where Rose acquired a love of gardening. She had quite the green thumb and took great pride in her yard.

Of all of her titles, Rose most cherished being ''Mimi'' to her grandchildren. She was always so delighted by them and their accomplishments that she often danced a jig just at the sight of them!

She is survived by her children, Marie Laymon (Scott) of Greenbrier, Marty Cavin (Christy) of Austin, Mike Cavin (Susan) of Greenbrier, Melissa Reeves of Bryant, and Kelli Greenwood (Joe) of Hot Springs; nine grandchildren, Pete Bradley, Lindsey Rowe, Morgan Purkiss, Chelsey Groh, Tyler Cavin, Scott Cavin, Blake Reeves, Evan Greenwood and Drew Greenwood; five great grandchildren; and her sister, Joan Baxley of Chipley, FL.

Our family is incredibly grateful for the compassionate doctors and nurses of Evergreen Living Center and Hospice Home Care who gave Mom the peacefulness and dignity to move to her Heavenly home.

So sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in the words spoken at Revelation 21:3,4
(3) "With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. (4)
And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away".

Rose and I go back a long way to 1955. I am also from south
Georgia and we met in Albany, GA. Martin and I moved to North Little Rock about the time Rose did. Rose was a beautiful girl and we stayed in touch for years but as time went by, we seldom saw each other. The last time we visited was at Marie's wedding (such a rainy week in June) and I talked with her Nov, 2002 when my sweet Martin passed away. I was sadden to learn of her death and I plan to be there to show my respect and love for this lady.

Rose was such a great lady. She spent a lot of time with my family (OB and Caroline) and she was my favorite "family friend". She was so nice to me and always made me feel good when she was around. I am so sorry to her family for the loss and I will pray for Rose and all of her family. I am so grateful to have known her. I am sorry that I cannot make the funeral but please know that I am thinking of her and her family. With love, Mike Phillips

Rose Cavin was a dear friend. She often would drive to our home in New Boston, Texas and stay a few days. Caroline and Rose were the best of friends. OB is retired from United Air Lines as a pilot. Back before he retired while I flew a trip to Seoul, S Korea from San Francisco, they went with me to SFO then on standby tickets they were going to Honolulu. Two days later when I return to SFO from my trip they were still standing by and never did get to go to HNL.
Rose talked religion most of the time and would go to church with us every chance she had. She met people well, never met a stranger, and was always the life of the party. We have already missed her. We made several trips to see her in the rest home, but she never recognized us. We are so sad.
She was friends with our children. Christen Wilson, our daughter described her as a strong lady. Strong in humor, strong in laughter and thought. She was funny and thoughtful. I have a strong memory of her. Please remember her strong points. Remember that people come into our lives for a reason.
According to her faith and ours, we will see her again some future day. May God bless the family of Rose Cavin.

Missy, My thoughts and prayers are with you. The strength and courage that you have shown throughout your mom's illness has been a tribute to the kind of person that you are and has been so inspiring to watch. You have truly shown us what it means to honor thy mother and father.. Rest in peace dear Rose.
